Chapter 39
During the following week, Travis finally got himself completely moved in to the house down the street from Avi's Pack. Thus, Jake and Alex had packed up their things and moved in with him, with the help of Scott and Avi of course. After hours of thought, Todrick decided to stay with Kevin rather than move out as well. Though Kevin was flattered that he was chosen over Alex, he knew how difficult the decision had been, and agreed to go visit once a day until Todrick was comfortable with the transition as well as positive that Alex was safe and happy.
During that week, they also went in to work several times, as the Counsel had needed them to come in. Unfortunately, that week was brought to an abrupt halt when some form of an Omega virus began to spread. Since the Omegas were exposed to other Omegas inside the Counsel, they didn't stand much of a chance. Alex, being a 9 that took vitamins daily (thanks to Todrick), got a very mild case of it, that Jake and Travis were easily able to care for. Though Avi had felt a weight lift off his shoulders with the decreased number of his pack members, the weight was slowly being brought back when he was assigned to full time care of both Grace and Kirstie, though they couldn't be around each other. Since no one was sure what Grace's Rank was, they didn't want to take the chance that she could be an Omega that was able to catch the sickness from Kirstie. Kevin, as a bystander of the whole event, can say that the house felt empty at the time. With three now missing, the quiet was obvious. But even the occupants of the house seemed nonexistent. Mitch never left his room, because Scott took care of everything. And when Scott did leave the room, he ran from point A to point B, to be sure Mitch wouldn't go very long without someone there to help. Todrick was out of the house a lot, taking Kevin with him sometimes, to check on Alex and be sure the Alphas knew what they were doing. But since both Travis and Jake had gone to School for longer than necessary, Todrick didn't have much to worry about. And yes, even in the midst of the chaos, Scott did remember to feed Wyatt. Meanwhile Avi was dashing across the hall trying to care for Grace outside of Kirstie's room, while also not leaving Kirstie by herself for more than a few minutes. Eventually he'd gotten so exhausted, he'd asked the Betas to care for Grace while he stayed with Kirstie for a bit. The house ran like this for almost three whole days, until Jake called Avi to tell him that Alex was fully healed. Avi left Kirstie briefly, to relay the news onto Scott. When he opened the door to their room, he frowned at the pale Omega lying in his bed miserably. Scott emerged from the bathroom moments later with a damp towel in his hand, and he sat beside Mitch on the bed to carefully blot Mitch's face with it. "Does that feel any better, my angel?" Mitch nodded a few times, and then rasped out a small. "Thank you." Scott then turned to Avi. "What's up?" "Just wanted to tell you that Alexander has made a full recovery. So Kirstie and Mitchell shouldn't take more than a day or so to heal back up." "Oh that's great news." Scott turned to Mitch with a smile. "Did you hear that, Sweetheart? Alex is all better." Mitch grinned a little, but let his eyes slip closed. "Good. I'm glad he's okay." Scott then folded the towel, and placed it over Mitch's forehead. He leaned down to kiss Mitch's cheek. "I'll be right back, Sweetpea. Not even two minutes, I promise." Mitch nodded, squeezing Scott's hand once before letting him go. Scott pulled Mitch's blanket up to his shoulders, and then turned to Avi. "Can I talk to you for a second?" Avi gestured for him to lead the way, and Scott walked into the hall, while Avi shut the door behind both of them. Scott crossed his arms over his chest, his face almost insecure-looking, Avi would say. Avi just raised an eyebrow at him. "Yes..?" "How's Kirstie? Is she... Looking up at all?" "Not yet. And... If I know where you're going with this... Don't worry about it, Kid. Just because Alexander is healed, doesn't mean they all should be. Alexander is a larger, healthier Omega. He exercises more than both of our Omegas combined. Don't freak yourself out about it." "But... I just hate how miserable he looks. Like... The coughing, the sneezing, the shivering, the fever..." "Has he started puking yet?" "Um... No?" "Consider yourself lucky then. It's okay, Scott. I know you hate that something is hurting your Omega that you have no control over, but it will be okay. Just give it some time." "Is there anything I can do to make it easier on him?" "Honestly, I'd ask the Betas. They probably have herbs, tea, medicine, and like... Beta magic, or something." "Okay, I will." "I might actually come with you to do that. Kirstie feels bad about not helping me with Grace, and it makes me feel bad that she feels bad and it's a vicious cycle." ********
