Chapter 37
Kirstie had a tough time falling asleep, but with Kevin's reassuring words, she was out like a light. Mitch was worried, but too tired to stay awake long enough to worry too much. Scott just waited for Mitch to fall asleep, and then he too passed out. Avi's relentless coughing kept himself awake most of the night, meaning he slept well into the morning. When he woke up, Scott was blocking the doorway from two Omegas that were trying to push their way into the room. Scott even had to push Mitch's arm away a few times. "Listen you two. If his Alpha body is struggling with this illness, just imagine how bad it would be in your Omega bodies." Kirstie whined loudly, trying to look over Scott's shoulder, but failing for obvious reasons. "I just want to see him!" Scott shushed her loudly. "Don't wake him up." Avi sat up, rubbing one of his eyes. "Too late." Both Omegas again tried to trample Scott, but he stood strong. "I told you no. Do you understand me? The answer is no." Mitch instantly backed away, hating Scott's stern voice. Kirstie's eyes filled with tears. "Please... Please let me see him." Scott shook his head sadly. "I'm sorry..." Kevin pushed past him though, heading straight for Avi. "Well, today's the day. How are you feeling?" "Same as yesterday." Avi grumbled tiredly. Kevin hummed, setting a hand on Avi's forehead. "I might need to get you to a doctor." "Ugh. Please don't." Kevin smiled at him. "Sorry. Can't risk it. Get dressed. Or don't. Whatever feels best." Kevin left the room, pushing Scott into the room with a, "help him", before he closed the door. Scott turned to Avi, who was struggling to climb out of bed. Scott walked over and held out a hand to help him stand. "How'd you sleep last night?" "Not well. Lots of coughing. Didn't feel good. Maybe 4 hours total, if that's what you're asking." Avi suddenly got light headed, and sat back down. Scott let him, and then walked to Avi's closet. "What do you want to wear? I'll grab it." Avi just shrugged. "Whatever, I guess." Scott grabbed a t-shirt and a pair of sweats, hoping to make Avi comfortable. Avi took the clothes and set them on the bed beside him. He looked up at Scott with tired, pleading eyes, and Scott immediately knew what he meant. Scott leaned forward and grabbed the hem of Avi's shirt, helping him pull it over his head. "Don't even worry about it. I've got you." Avi let Scott slip the other shirt over his head and then slid his arms into their place. Scott helped him stand again, and then looked down at Avi's boxers. "You want to do this by yourself? I'll turn around, even." Avi just shrugged, so Scott turned around anyway. Avi changed his boxers quickly and then tapped on Scott's shoulder to notify him that he'd finished. Scott grabbed the sweatpants and knelt down to help Avi step into the pants. Then he pulled them all the way up Avi's legs, while Avi held onto his shoulder for balance, his illness making him light headed again. Kevin walked into the room again, seeing Scott slipping on Avi's last shoe. Kevin held his arm out to help Avi walk out of the room, speaking to Scott without looking at him. "I'll take care of it from here. Just stay with the Omegas, yes? I'll call you when we figure something out." Scott nodded as they walked out, but grabbed Kevin's other arm. "What if you catch it too?" "I don't even know if it's contagious yet. Better me than one of the Omegas, though." Scott nodded again, following them to the door, and then closing the front door behind them. When he turned again, both Omegas were staring at him with wide, curious eyes. Scott smiled and set a hand on each of their shoulders. "Alpha just needs to go see a doctor really fast. It's going to be okay." Mitch frowned and looked to Kirstie, who took a small step towards Scott. "Are.. I mean. Are you sure? He'll be okay?" "Are you kidding? With Alpha genes like he's got, he could probably survive a plague." Scott chuckled a little, but Mitch shook his head. "Don't make jokes. This could be serious." "I wasn't making a joke. I was trying to be reassuring." Kirstie shook her head at them. "Can.. We make him cookies or something for when he comes home?" Scott put an arm over her shoulders, walking them towards the kitchen. "Of course we can." Mitch trailed behind them silently. Kirstie got started instantly, knowing exactly what to do. Scott helped her when she asked for it, but otherwise stayed out of her way. Mitch was staring at Scott, but Scott failed to notice while he kept his focus on Kirstie. When he finally did notice Mitch staring at him, he only glanced over for a second. "What's up? Why are you looking at me like that?" "Just... Ugh. Just nothing. Nevermind." Scott pulled Mitch's small body into his side. "Talk to me, baby. What's wrong? Are you worried about Avi?" "Kind of. But that's not it." "Then what? I'm not a mind reader, honey." Mitch sighed, watching Kirstin put cookie dough on a cooking sheet. "We'll talk later, okay? Avi needs your full attention right now." "If you're sure..?" "I am." Scott nodded in understanding. Kirstin then put the cookie tray into the oven, setting the timer before turning to Scott. "Movies? Please?"
Scott held out his hand for her to grab as he lead her to the living room. He sat in the middle of the couch, waiting for Kirstin to pick a movie, while Mitch curled up beside him, Scott putting an arm over his shoulders immediately. Kirstin sat down when the movie started to play, tucking herself under Scott's other arm. She only stood up to take the cookies out of the oven, but Scott rushed to her side when he heard her begin to cry. He rubbed her back, bending down to her eye level. "What's wrong, Kit Kat?" "I just.. I hope he's okay. I want him to be okay." She whimpered, meeting his bright blue eyes. Scott nodded and continued to rub her back as she quietly turned the oven off. Scott first heard the doorbell ring, and then he heard Mitch stand up. Scott quickly left Kirstin's side, just so he could get to a spot where he could see Mitch. "Hey! No. Mitchell, sit down." Mitch, nearly a foot from the door, gestured to it. "I can get it. You're busy."
