Chapter 55
Mitch and Scott were laughing about something, Mitch still going through the seating chart to be sure it was all perfect. He was laying on his stomach on the bed, the paper in front of him, while Scott was standing by the bedside table, quickly checking his phone. Mitch pointed at something on the paper, and turned toward Scott. "Kev has my parents seated with yours. Is that going to be okay?" "Yeah. I'm sure my dad won't say very much because of how upset he'll be. But my mom will hopefully get along well with your mom and dad."
Kirstie burst into the room right then, running over to Scott and hugging him tightly, tears still flowing steadily down her face. Scott hugged her immediately. "Oh God Kit, are you okay? What's the matter?" "Alex had-- He was-- And he--" She stopped to let out a loud sob. Mitch hummed from the bed, looking at the paper once more. "Ah, is Alex downstairs telling his life story again? Yeah, that's quite a tragedy." Scott didn't like the way he phrased it though. "Mitch, shame on you. Show some sympathy." Kirstie cried even louder, clutching Scott's large body with everything she had as she soaked his shirt with her tears. "You weren't there, Mitch! You didn't hear it!" "No, but I've heard it before. I lived half of it with him, for Christ's sake." Mitch responded offhandedly. Scott ran his hands up and down Kirstie's back, hoping to offer some comfort since Mitch refused to do so. "Want to talk about it, Snowflake?" Kirstie began rambling. "Well his mom died, then his dad died, and he wishes that his mom could've seen him become an Omega, because he wishes she could've been proud and-- Oh! He even had to watch her die, do you know that? She died right before his eyes!" Scott's heart was already hurting, and Kirstie wasn't even halfway done. "Then he went to school to obsess over homework, until he was accepted into a pack. But it just had to be Jamie's, where he was abused and raped and--and... And then he had to go through a divorce, with the one person who saved his life, but then he left too! But what gets me, see? What really gets me.. Is that he's the happiest person in this entire house. He's, very possibly, the happiest person I've ever met." Kirstie explained. Scott just held her, meeting Mitch's eyes over her shoulder for a moment, before he looked back down. "I know, Kit. I know it's heartbreaking. But you know he wouldn't want you to cry over him." "He didn't want a lot of things, but me crying over him isn't one of them." She whined, wiping her tears on Scott's shirt without thinking about it. But the moment the realization hit her, she froze, staring at the dark spot that had formed from her wet eyes. "Oh, I'm so sorry!" Scott just shook his head, pulling her into another hug. "Don't worry about it. Please don't cry anymore... It's making my heart hurt." Mitch scoffed, not looking up from the paper. "Yes, please. Spare us the torture." Scott looked up quickly with a glare. "Mitchell." He scolded. "That's enough."
