Chapter 4 Encounter

"I will be there soon, John, stop hurrying me... I just have to take the shortcut, Damon said to his right-hand man and best friend which he had known since childhood... "Yes sir, I will try to stall everyone, but you know Juan can be impatient at times" John replied and was about to say something else, but Damon ended the call before John could say anything else to him... he sighed deeply and saw that he was running late for his 'meeting'... He had no choice but to attend, his foolish cousin Juan had arranged for a meeting and was trying to test his nerves... Damon was about to take a turn by the intersection that John had told him about when all of a sudden a woman appeared out of nowhere and ran right in front of his car.. He pressed down on his brakes... his hands gripping onto the steering wheel... He didn't hit her... Why the hell did she run into the road like that... Damon's blood immediately started to boil in anger... it was such a close call, and if he had wasted a second longer, she would have been seriously injured or maybe died! .... it took him a few seconds before he could catch his breath and unstrap his seat belt... he immediately came out of his car and rushed to see if whoever it was was okay... A deep frown Had settled On his face now... It was a woman, and she was seated on the floor, her eyes wide and her entire body trembling in fear... "Are you alright? Why the hell would you run in front of a car like that? Are you planning on dying!" He said in a raised voice causing the trembling woman to flinch... She looked a total mess... Damon slowly immediately knelt in front of her... she didn't seem physically hurt, but one couldn't fully tell... "Miss!" He called out to her again when he didn't get a response, but she finally looked at him... Her eyes were filled with fear... what exactly was her problem He wondered, his anger slowly dissipating... Julia's heart was still racing like crazy... she had almost died, but thankfully, the car didn't hit.... her knees had grown weak due to fear and shock and that was the only reason why she fell to the ground... It still didn't change the fact that Charlie's men were still chasing after her... She looked at the worried man in front of her, and Julia made a drastic decision then... it was the only thing she could think of... "Please help me!..." She pleaded with the worried stranger and held his arm... Her hand trembling uncontrollably... "You need to get up first, let's go to the hospital!" Damon said... she might not look hurt physically, but he could tell that something was wrong with her... Julia didn't leave his hand as he helped her up, and her eyes kept scanning around, her heart racing as she hoped that they hadn't caught up to her... Damon's mind was reeling like crazy! he couldn't afford to call an ambulance or the police... it would only get out that he had almost hit someone with his car, and that wasn't what he needed at such a crucial time... Everyone was already against him succeeding his father as the new leader, he couldn't afford any accidents... It was the wrong time for something like this to be happening to him... First of all, he had to get her out of there before anyone saw them... he picked up her bag that had fallen... Damon Helped her into his car and then quickly went to the driver's side... and just as he started his car engine and drove off, Julia's eyes caught Charlie's men coming out of the alley she had run out from... If she had wasted any second more, they would have caught her and taken her back... Damon couldn't help but Glance at the woman beside him who was staring out the window like someone was following after them... "How are you feeling?" He asked her... his voice seemed to bring her back, and she turned to look at him, her eyes filled with worry... "I'm fine..." She said in a really low voice, and he could barely hear her... "You can drop me off in a few minutes," Julia added, but there was no way he was dropping her off after what had happened... she had seen his face... what if she tried to blackmail him... He didn't trust anyone... it could have been a setup, and he had to make sure it wasn't... "I have to make sure you are okay before I drop you off... you look quite shocked earlier... you still do, " He said to Julia, and she immediately became worried... Trusting people was the last thing she knew how to do, especially when she just went through a betrayal less than an hour before... "I'm fine, sir... you can drop me off!" she protested, and Damon sighed deeply... "Let a doctor check on you first... how can I trust you to leave like this? " He muttered the last part, and Julia didn't hear him... Her heart was still racing as she sat in the car, but it was better than running and hiding... His phone rang, and immediately Julia became startled .. she turned to look at him and their eyes met... Damon's eyes then travelled to see who was calling and as he had expected it was John... Damon answered the call, and before John could say anything, he said, "Call Dr Robins over to my apartment... make sure he is there as soon as possible and reschedule the meeting something came up, and also makes sure no one learns about this" he instructed in a cold and firm voice... "Are you alright, sir?" John asked, his voice laced with worry because damon had mentioned the doctor... he knew not to question Damon's instructions just by the tone of his boss' voice but he didn't change the fact that he was worried... Did Juan's men ambush him? John wondered... "I'm fine, just do as I say" Damon ended the call after and glanced at Julia, who was back to staring out the window of his car... she seemed a bit more relaxed than before... "What's your name?" Damon asked a few minutes later... Julia turned to look at this weird stranger who she had asked for him to drop her off, but he was oddly persistent... "Why do you need to know my name?" Julia replied with a question, He opened his mouth to answer her but closed it... She seemed better now and braver even after she almost killed herself... surprisingly he wasn't angry anymore... "Why did you ask me to help you... you looked frightened, and why did you run in front of my car like that it could have ended badly..." Damon said, and Julia sighed deeply... if she told him her predicament would he help her... he would probably take her to the police, but the police couldn't help, she had gone to them for help but they did nothing... "I was being chased by some people" She answered his question and damon's eyes grew slightly wide... "What do you mean chased?" "It's a long story, but you saved me so thank you..." Julia thanked him... he did save her at the last minute... Just these few details weren't enough for Damon... he wanted to know more and was curious about her and who was chasing her... but he didn't want to get nosy... He had a feeling that it was best if he didn't get himself mixed up with whatever she was all about... But it was hard for him not to be curious...
