Chapter 9 Adrian, I Am Your Wife!
Evelyn felt as if her heart was being torn apart. "Adrian, everything I’ve said is true!"
"To me, nothing matters more than Bianca's feelings. What you're saying is just nonsense," he retorted.
His words were sharp, piercing Evelyn’s heart like a sword.
It turned out that in his heart, the truth didn't matter. What mattered was his love for Bianca, a love that surpassed everything.
Evelyn suddenly felt her heart sink like a stone. All her hopes and expectations for this man crumbled.
With a bitter smile, she said, "Fine, I'll apologize!"
Enduring the pain in her body and heart, Evelyn lowered her head and apologized to Bianca.
She saw Bianca smirking, the victorious smile on her face standing out painfully in her eyes.
She had never thought Adrian could disregard the truth so completely, simply because he loved Bianca that much.
After that day, Evelyn never saw Adrian again.
Determined to move on, she decided to find a job and distract herself from the torment of Adrian’s indifference.
Evelyn had studied jewelry design and graduated with top honors. She submitted her resume online, and very soon, she received interview invitations from two companies. After careful consideration, she chose the one closer to home.
She thought she could distract herself with work, but she couldn't help thinking about Adrian, even though he despised her and hated her.
The autumn evening was chilly. Most of her coworkers had already left, but Evelyn stayed behind, immersed in her tasks.
Returning home only meant facing an empty house. She’d rather stay at the office, burying herself in work to numb her thoughts.
As the clock neared 10 p.m., Evelyn felt a pang of hunger.
She touched her belly. Thinking of the little life growing inside her filled her with warmth and contentment.
Just as she was about to leave, her phone rang with a distinct ringtone.
Evelyn's heart skipped a beat as she nervously picked up the phone.
The name on the screen seemed unreal.
Adrian was calling her.
She hesitated, stunned, but then answered in a rush of joy. “Adrian…”
"Ah... Adrian, you're so amazing, I love you..."
A sultry, feminine voice echoed from the other end, followed by a man’s low, husky murmurs.
Evelyn froze, clutching her phone tightly as her heart plummeted from euphoria to devastation. A wave of unbearable pain surged through her chest.
She hurriedly hung up, trying to deceive herself and erase what she'd just heard. Yet, tears had already begun sliding uncontrollably down her cheeks.
Dragging her tired body back to the villa, Evelyn opened a bottle of red wine from Adrian's collection.
She took a few sips, hoping the alcohol would drown her pain, but eventually, she stopped. She couldn’t let her baby suffer alongside her.
Still, she grew lightheaded. In her haze, she saw the man she had admired for twelve years walking towards her.
He was tall and handsome. From his presence to his looks, everything about him was unparalleled. He was the man who had haunted her dreams, the man she loved but could never have.
Throwing the wine glass aside, Evelyn staggered toward Adrian, her steps unsteady. She wrapped her arms around his neck, lifting up her drunken face to look at him.
“Adrian, I don't allow you to tangle with other women anymore. If you need someone, come to me. I am your wife!" she spoke boldly, saying things she'd never dared to say before.
She loved him, loved him so much that she’d buried her pride and dignity for him.
Adrian's face darkened, pushing Evelyn away in disgust.
But Evelyn clung to him like sticky honey, even using both hands to undo his buttons. She stood on tiptoe, leaning in to kiss him.
She caught a whiff of the perfume lingering on him, the scent Bianca always wore.
But she ignored the scent, continuing her reckless pursuit.
Perhaps this was her last chance to be close to him. She didn’t care if he saw her as desperate, shameless, or pathetic. She just wanted one final memory to hold onto before they inevitably drifted apart.
