Chapter 1 Ms Taylor, You're Pregnant
Stepping out of the hospital entrance, Evelyn Taylor's hand trembled as she clutched the test results. Tears welled up in her eyes, though she couldn’t tell if they were from joy or despair.
“Ms. Taylor, you're pregnant,” the doctor’s words echoed relentlessly in her ears.
Three months ago, Evelyn had married the most powerful and unattainable man in Velmorra, Adrian Pierce, the heir of the illustrious Pierce family.
On their wedding day, the entire city’s women were green with envy, and even Evelyn herself felt like the luckiest woman alive.
Ever since she first met Adrian at the age of ten, a seed had taken root in her heart.
For the past twelve years, she had worked tirelessly to better herself, all to keep up with Adrian's footsteps, just so she could catch another glimpse of him in a crowd.
She had always thought they lived in two different worlds. A wild, orphaned girl like her, raised in the shadows, could never cross paths with someone like him.
Yet fate, whether through a twist of kindness or cruelty, intervened. Three months ago, she attended a classmate's birthday party and woke up the next morning to find Adrian lying beside her.
The stark white bed sheets bore a vivid red stain, a clear reminder of what had transpired between Adrian and her the night before.
Before she could piece together how it all happened, a knock on the door shattered her thoughts. A group of media reporters were waiting outside, eager to broadcast the scandal of Adrian Pierce spending the night with an unknown woman.
The Pierce family was the epitome of prestige in Velmorra. Their reputation as a noble household was impeccable. Mr. Pierce Senior, being an old-fashioned man, immediately announced Adrian and Evelyn’s wedding to the press upon learning of the scandal.
To Evelyn, it all felt like a dream, but not the fairytale she had envisioned.
Adrian didn’t love her. In fact, he despised her. He loathed her presence for forcing him to betray the woman he truly loved—her elder sister, Bianca Taylor.
Despite everything, Evelyn mustered her courage and called Adrian.
As expected, the call went unanswered. She could only send a text message, stating that she had something important to discuss and hoped he would come home that evening.
In the three months they had been married, Adrian had never stayed a single night at home. Evelyn was left alone every night, and she knew exactly where he spent his nights.
The call went unanswered, and the text went unacknowledged. Evelyn’s heart grew cold. She knew Adrian wouldn’t be coming home tonight.
After taking a shower, Evelyn prepared to rest. She suddenly heard the sound of the door slamming open.
Looking up, she was startled to see that cold, impossibly handsome face. Her heart skipped a beat.
“You’re home, Adrian,” she greeted him cautiously, her pale complexion lit by a faint smile.
But as she approached, Adrian seized her arm and mercilessly flung her onto the bed.
Evelyn suddenly felt a sharp pain in her lower abdomen. Filled with panic, she turned over, only to see Adrian irritably tug at his shirt collar before his strong figure pressed down on her in an instant.
His long fingers clamped tightly around her jaw, his peach blossom eyes burning with anger and a hint of intoxication.
“Evelyn, you like me that much? Enough to resort to such underhanded tricks to get into my bed?” His deep, magnetic voice was laced with mockery and hatred.
Evelyn's face turned pale as she looked at the face she had admired for twelve years, a dull pain spreading in her heart.
“Adrian, you’ve misunderstood..."
“Misunderstood?” He sneered, chuckling coldly. “Drop the act, Evelyn. Isn’t this exactly what you wanted?”
Before she could respond, he roughly ripped open her nightgown…
