Chapter 5 Aren't You Enjoying It?
None of them had expected Evelyn to appear so suddenly, let alone utter such provocative words. The three people in the ward were all stunned.
A few seconds later, Bianca’s face darkened. Gone was the usual mask of gentle elegance she wore so well, replaced by a hostile and unpleasant look. “Evelyn, why are you still here?”
Evelyn’s bloodshot eyes glimmered with sarcasm as she let out a sharp laugh. “Isn’t it obvious? I’m here to cooperate with the wonderful plans you’ve just been discussing.”
Bianca froze, her face contorting in panic. “How dare you eavesdrop on us!”
"Oh, I dared," Evelyn replied coldly. "And if I hadn’t, I wouldn’t have realized my dear sister is actually such a shameless hypocrite."
"How dare you insult Bianca like that, you wild tramp!" Margaret snapped, her anger boiling over as she raised her hand to slap Evelyn.
“Mom, why bother getting angry with this uncultured country bumpkin?” Bianca sneered. She cast a disdainful glance at Evelyn and said calmly, “Evelyn, for the sake of our sisterhood, you’d better agree to divorce Adrian. If you don’t, I fear the consequences might be too much for you to handle.”
Evelyn had already given up on the familial bond she once carefully cherished. The so-called sisterhood was nothing but a hollow pretense.
She looked at Bianca, appearing calmer than her. “If you beg me right now, I might just consider it.”
"What?" Bianca’s face twisted, her expression frozen in disbelief.
“You brat, have you lost your mind?” Margaret shouted angrily.
Watching the mother and daughter’s faces twist with rage, Evelyn couldn’t help but laugh. “Maybe I have. And that’s why I’ll cling to Adrian and the title of Mrs. Pierce for the rest of my life.”
“Evelyn, don’t push your luck!" Bianca blushed with anger. "I won't let you succeed!"
"I already have. As of now, everyone in the Velmorra knows Adrian Pierce’s wife is Evelyn Taylor, not you!" Evelyn shot back.
With that, Evelyn turned and walked away, ignoring Bianca's furious curses trailing behind her.
Leaving the hospital, Evelyn made her way to a maternal and pediatric hospital.
She was worried that last night’s ordeal with Adrian, coupled with her fall earlier, might have affected her baby.
There were many people in line, mostly pregnant women accompanied by their husbands or families. Their faces radiated happiness and contentment, making Evelyn feel like she was living a cruel joke.
She was carrying the child of the man she loved, yet that same man’s heart belonged to another.
It wasn’t supposed to be like this. Once, he held her hand and promised, “When we grow up, I’ll make you my wife.”
He did marry her, but only because he was forced to.
The baby was fine, Evelyn finally exhaled in relief.
Returning home, Evelyn had just stepped inside when she heard the front door slam shut behind her.
She turned to see Adrian.
His strikingly handsome face was shadowed with fury.
“You went to see Bianca again, didn’t you?” His voice was frigid.
Evelyn could guess Bianca had already tattled, but she remained calm. “Yes, I did, but..."
“Evelyn, you’re truly despicable!”
His cutting words felt like shards of glass piercing Evelyn’s heart. Pain radiated through her chest.
She stood frozen, staring at the man walking towards her. His charming eyes were cold and merciless now. “You told Bianca that even in death, you’d cling to me and ensure she’d never set foot in my family’s home. Did you actually say that?”
Evelyn’s face turned pale. She had never said those words.
She wanted to explain, but Adrian, in a rage, grabbed her wrist and flung her onto the sofa with brutal force.
