Aila hadn’t expected the carriage to take them this far, especially in this awkward silence and with a man who had kept staring at her without shame since she entered. She met his eyes for the umpteenth time, glancing away because his stare was too intense, too much for just her. Finally, the carriage stopped, and she looked outside, a deep crease forming on her eyebrows. They didn’t stop in front of a home or a castle, but a path that curved uphill. She looked at him to see him smile at her before opening the carriage door and stepping out before her. He stood there and waited silently as she took everything in, her mind in shambles, wondering where they might be.
