Aila fell to the floor the minute Ahsan left the room, her entire body in shock at what had just happened. The elders trooped out immediately, Elder Charles being the first to leave the room, banging the door angrily. The rest of them walked out, muttering words that seemed so far yet so close that she couldn’t hear. No one looked at her. Not even one of them, as they all left her in the room.
