Chapter 14 The Auction
"A golden card?"
"Yeah, there's nothing written on it, not even a card number. But the emblem is unique. Did you find it somewhere?" Melody asked Xaiden.
"I'm not sure. Maybe I got it a while ago."
"Nowadays, everyone uses mobile payments. This card could be more useful. If you like it, you can keep it." Xaiden replied nonchalantly.
Melody's limited knowledge prevented her from realizing the golden card was pure gold disguised with a layer of gold dust to conceal its true value. The emblem on the card was the mark of the Invincible War God, the only one in the entire country. Seeing this card was like seeing the War God himself. If the big shots in Goldenia saw it, they'd be scared stiff and bow down in worship.
This card, the Invincible Gold Card, allowed for an annual overdraft of 50 billion without repayment. It symbolized Xaiden's five years of military achievements in the northern region, embodying his status and authority. However, Xaiden never cared about these things. If he wanted money, billions would be delivered to him quickly. He only cared about Melody now. The Invincible Gold Card was utterly ordinary compared to her.
"What's the password, and how much money is in the card?" Melody continued to ask.
"I can't remember how much is in it, and I forgot the password. Maybe it's all eights."
"Hmph, I'll keep this card to prevent you from spending recklessly," Melody said as she put the Invincible Gold Card into her bag.
"Yes, my love." Xaiden smiled.
"I'll go make dinner now."
"Just make something simple. There's an auction tonight, and Grandma said all the Torris family members must attend. After dinner, change your clothes, and we'll all go."
"Alright."
Xaiden had planned to go to the auction but couldn't find a good reason to leave. Now that the Torris family was going, he could join them openly and seize the opportunity.
Soon, the Torris family finished dinner. Garrick and Renee took out their cherished outfits, while Melody wore a black off-shoulder, deep V-neck evening gown.
"Honey, you look stunning, like a goddess."
"Isn't it a bit too revealing?"
"Not at all. You should flaunt your good figure."
Xaiden smiled, always confident.
"My daughter has a great physique. She doesn't need your comments. You, a good-for-nothing, shouldn't come with us tonight. You'll just embarrass the Torris family. Stay home and clean." Renee coldly said to Xaiden.
"Mom, Xaiden is my husband. He must go with me, or I won't go either."
"Are you defying me now? Look at him. He doesn't even have decent clothes. What's he going to do there?"
"And what if he gets scared at such a big event like the auction?"
"You can't compare to him. You're the vice president of Torris Company now. You must attend such events. Let's go." Renee dragged Melody downstairs, got a cab, and headed to the Presidential Hotel.
After the Torris family left, Xaiden quietly followed.
...
In a secluded villa in Josenz, a group of people sat in the hall. They were the Watson Family, and this was their last villa. A man in a military uniform, exuding a menacing aura, stood at the center. He was Orson, a soldier under the Savage War God of Southvale Legion.
Orson had spent half a month without finding the murderer of his father and younger brother. Instead, he learned that Xaiden, the son of the Sallen Family in Josenz who was imprisoned five years ago, had mysteriously disappeared.
"Xaiden."
Orson repeatedly muttered the name.
"Uncle, isn't Melody's useless husband also named Xaiden? Could they be the same person?"
Marven remembered someone upon hearing the name.
"No, I know Xaiden. He looks nothing like that worthless person from the Sallen Family. They can't be the same person."
"And the masked man who struck that day was too skilled to be that worthless person." Winnie denied it outright.
"Yes." Orson pondered.
"How's the auction preparation?"
"Everything is ready, just waiting for them."
"Good. As soon as the Torris family shows up, we act. Tonight, I'll make the Torris family pay for my father's death."
"And after dealing with the Torris family, I'll personally handle Thane," Orson said coldly, his eyes filled with murderous intent.
At eight o'clock, an hour before the auction began, luxury cars filled the entrance of the Presidential Hotel.
Although the Watson Family had fallen, Orson's return had restored their prestige.
Orson was a close confidant of the Fury War God and held a high military rank in the Southvale Army. In Josenz, he had significant status. The Watson Family's rise to the top in Josenz was largely due to Orson.
Josenz's elite attended the auction to honor Orson and witness the legendary painting "Empyrean Rain in the Solitary Mountains"
Two figures in black trench coats observed the commotion outside the Presidential Hotel.
"Master Watson, Orson has returned. He's a soldier of the Southvale Army and a trusted aide of the Fury War God." Sean whispered.
"Fury War God?"
"Hmph, even if that old tyrant himself stood in my way, he'd kneel!"
Xaiden said coldly, exuding an aura of dominance.
In Summerton, there existed Four Military Districts: Nothernvale, Southvale, East, and West, each overseen by its own War God. Among them, the Invincible War God, the invincible Sallen, was a legend. Despite being the youngest and least experienced, he had become a myth in five years. No other War God dared to challenge him.
Even combined, the other three War Gods were no match for the invincible Sallen.
Moreover, the invincible Sallen had another identity—The Divine Healer. His golden needles were both lethal and life-saving, capable of healing severe injuries and resurrecting the dead. In Summerton, no one could compare to him.
