Chapter 11 Give Him a Chance
"Why the rush? Can't you see we've got an important guest?" Jennifer snapped.
"Thane Everett, the chairman of VitaNova Pharmaceuticals, met with Melody in person. It's all over the internet. People are saying our family's about to hit it big!" Alston exclaimed, showing her a photo on his phone.
"Is that really Melody?" Jennifer's face shifted from fury to surprise.
She turned to Melody with a smile and praised, "Great job, Melody! I can't believe Mr. Everett met with you himself. With this deal, we're all set! The Torris Family can finally stand tall in Josenz!"
"Do you believe now, Grandma? That means Xaiden doesn't have to leave the family." Melody beamed, seeing her grandmother so happy.
"Alexander, you’re finally here. Thank you for coming." A voice called from the hallway, following a middle-aged woman who hastily entered the living room.
"Alexander, I heard you came just for Melody. That's great to hear, and I think you two can get married anytime," Renee added with a smile.
"Mom! You can't just decide that!" Melody protested, stomping her foot in annoyance.
"I'm your mother, and my word is final!" Renee exclaimed decisively.
"Grandma, you promised. You said if we secure the order, I could be with Xaiden. You can't take that back now!" Melody begged Jennifer.
However, Jennifer shot back sharply, "Brat, how dare you lecture me over that worthless man?! Yes, I did say that, but I meant Xaiden would win the deal himself. You closed the deal; it's got nothing to do with him. He's just a nobody!"
"Now he should just leave. You and Alexander are meant for a wealthy life together. You'll have all the fame and prosperity," she insisted.
Though Jennifer was unsure why VitaNova Pharmaceuticals' chairman treated Melody with such respect, she was sure it had nothing to do with Xaiden because she had investigated his background and knew he was lately released from prison for rape.
Initially, she'd set up Melody's marriage to Xaiden to edge their family out of the Torris Family, but she never expected Melody's makeover. Not only did her sight return and her beauty improve, but she also secured a deal worth a billion for the Torris Family.
With Melody's newfound appeal, they could rise to the Watson Family. Naturally, Jennifer couldn't pass up such a rare chance.
"Grandma knows best!" Talon added, immediately flattering Jennifer at her words.
"Old Mrs. Torris, no fret. The Torris Family will reap the rewards once Melody and I get married. A deal worth a billion is peanuts. One call and VitaNova Pharmaceuticals will cancel your deal," Alexander boasted.
"My dad runs the Watson Family now. After we tie the knot, I'll direct twenty percent of our family's orders your way. That'll set you up nicely," Alexander added, eyeing Jennifer contemptuously.
Deep down, he reflected, The Watson Family is Josenz's wealthiest, handling a hundred billion contract with VitaNova Pharmaceuticals annually. A billion is peanuts compared to our wealth.
"Xaiden, what's your take?" Melody asked, turning to him for advice.
Xaiden responded softly, "Melody, what do you think?"
"Of course, I want to be with you. You've saved me and gave me a second life. To me, you're already my husband. I'll stick by you no matter what," Melody affirmed with conviction.
Hearing her words, Xaiden suggested calmly, "Let's call Mr. Everett now. We'll find out how much sway the Watson Family has and if they can cancel your deal on a whim."
Melody hesitated, "Is... is that necessary?"
"There's nothing wrong with it. Do you want to see me kicked out of the Torris Family?" Xaiden asked.
"Sure, I'll call him now." Melody grabbed Thane's name card and called its number.
Before Melody could finish dialing, Renee grabbed her phone and fiercely scolded her, "Why are you calling? You're ignoring your grandma, disregarding what I say, and trusting this useless person. How does he compare to Alexander? Why are you sticking up for him like this?"
"Relax, Mrs. Torris. Just let her make the call. If they don't know what's good for them, I'll let them regret it. Besides, Mr. Everett of VitaNova Pharmaceuticals isn't foolish. How would they risk losing such a major business partner like our Watson Family for the small Torris Family?" Alexander remarked, with a hint of disdain and confidence in his voice.
After Alexander's remarks, Renee handed the phone back to Melody.
Without hesitation, Melody called Thane. After a few rings, she greeted, "Hello, Mr. Everett. This is Melody Torris."
Thane, who was in a meeting, immediately halted proceedings upon hearing Melody's name and found a quiet spot to speak with her respectfully.
Melody wasted no time explaining, "We just signed a contract today, but Alexander claims he can cancel it with a call."
"Alexander? Who does he think he is? What gives him the right to cancel VitaNova Pharmaceuticals' orders like that?" Thane's tone grew serious as he processed the news.
Melody added, "Alexander Watson, from the Watson Family in Josenz. He even claims VitaNova Pharmaceuticals owes the Watson Family ten billion, so my 100 million order means nothing."
"What?! Hold on, Miss Torris. Let me look into this. I'll call you back soon," Thane replied, clearly taken aback by the revelation.
After hanging up, everyone in the room turned their attention to Melody.
"Melody, what's happening?" Renee asked urgently.
Melody muttered quietly, "Mr. Everett said he'll check and call me back."
Just then, Thane erupted furiously in his office, demanding, "Find out right away who dared to insult VitaNova Pharmaceuticals!"
He usually let others handle Josenz's orders, but today's incident got under his skin. He thought, Why create unnecessary trouble? And why with the invincible Sallen's woman?
"Mr. Everett, we've identified Mr. Blackwood as behind the Watson Family's orders," the female assistant informed.
"Tell him to clear out and cancel all orders with the Watson Family!" Thane ordered decisively.
