Chapter 7 Have a Private Talk
Overnight, word of the incident traveled rapidly. Everyone in Josenz quickly learned about it. Harrison Watson, the Watson Family patriarch, and his third son, Burle Watson, both died. Today was supposed to be Harrison's 80th birthday, but last night, a masked stranger appeared and presented him with a black coffin. Following that, Harrison was decapitated, and his son's chest was crushed. The authorities looked into it, but they were unable to uncover anything.
Xaiden gazed at Melody, seeming to be surprised. "No, I have not heard. I returned home last night and went to bed after having a bath. Isn't the Watson family extremely wealthy?"
"It's not only about money. They have far more connections, resources, and financial influence than the Torris Family. Cloud Group, the Watson Family's affiliate, is worth billions of dollars on its own. The Torris Family's total assets are incomparable to just one of their businesses. Many women aspire to marry into an affluent family like theirs and become the wives of a notable individual." Melody's expression showed a trace of jealousy, as she explained.
Hearing this, Xaiden chuckled as he drove his scooter. "If you had followed your family's plan and sent me away yesterday, you might still have a chance. You are the most beautiful woman in Josenz!"
"I am not interested in it. What are the benefits of marrying into an affluent family? It's a never-ending fight for survival, fueled by envy. If things go wrong, you may end up getting banished. I will not go there!"
"Oh, darling, you've watched too many soap operas."
"No, I haven't!"
The two of them continued to converse joyfully as they approached VitaNova Pharmaceuticals' headquarters. VitaNova Pharmaceuticals was a Josenz-based company of Goldenia's Everett Family. The headquarters comprised thirty-three levels and emanated a majestic and commanding air, reflecting the Everett Family's wealth.
Melody felt apprehensive as she glanced at the majestic VitaNova Pharmaceuticals headquarters. She had no idea what was going on in the outside world for the last five years, other than what she heard on the radio and in calls. But, for the sake of Xaiden, Melody summoned the strength to contact her classmates.
A half-hour later, a heavily made-up and seductive-looking lady emerged. When she spotted Melody standing downstairs, a look of jealousy sprang on her face.
"Melody? Is that really you? I heard your eyesight and appearance had returned to normal, but I didn't anticipate you to be more attractive than you were five years ago." The woman who appeared was Chelsea Grant, Melody's high school classmate. Melody called Chelsea yesterday to explain her problem.
"Yes, Chelsea, it is me. You've accomplished so much. Working for VitaNova Pharmaceuticals, you are the most successful person in our class!" Melody grasped Chelsea's hand and remarked with compassion.
"Oh, I'm just an employee who earns a salary of just over three hundred thousand a year."
Melody's comments gave Chelsea a boost in self-confidence, and she quickly waved her hand dismissively.
"Three hundred thousand per year? That is awesome! If I had half of what you have, I would be happy too." Melody continued.
"By the way, Melody, aren't you here to see our chairman? You will need my manager's assistance with this situation. As you know, at a firm like ours, the manager has considerable authority. So long as you can meet his demands... The manager can sign the contract for you without the chairman's approval," Chelsea whispered the rest of the sentence into Melody's ear.
"What? No way!" When Melody realized what the other was implying, she promptly rejected him.
"If you want the advantages, you must provide something in return. I agreed to help you because we are classmates. Otherwise, do you believe that anyone may come here and meet the manager?"
Chelsea crossed her arms with a smug expression. Xaiden, on the other hand, listened intently and kept his gaze locked on Chelsea. "Classmates? With what you've just stated, you're not deserving of the title 'classmate.' Please do not tarnish that term!" Chelsea shook beneath his stare.
"You loser. What right do you have to interfere in my affairs? What? Do you want to rape me too? Everyone in Josenz knows you are a rapist!" Chelsea glared at Xaiden and swore.
"What's going on?"
A voice sounded from within the building, and then a man dressed in a fine suit appeared outside.
"Mr. Burris, this is the classmate I told you about, Melody!"
When the man appeared, Chelsea approached him with a flattering grin.
"Oh, Ms. Torris. You've arrived. Chelsea informed me about your condition. Come to my office, and we'll have a private talk."
The man known as Mr. Burris was Chelsea's manager, Jaycob Burris. Chelsea was able to advance to her present position because she offered herself to Jaycob and fulfilled his needs at work.
Jaycob's eyes brightened as he spotted Melody. This woman is far more attractive than the photograph Chelsea gave me yesterday. If I could have her, I couldn't imagine how enjoyable it would be.
At this point, Jaycob's imagination had already begun to imagine what would happen in his office. As head of procurement, he had slept with innumerable women in similar ways. Initially, those women fought, but Jaycob quickly had them in his bed and at his mercy.
"Melody, what are you waiting for? Go with him. Only Mr. Burris can assist you in this case now. Previously, you were ugly and blind, so no one paid attention to you. However, the situation has changed. You have grown into a gorgeous person. You must learn to leverage your advantages. Otherwise, what is the point of being so beautiful? Do you want to depend on this loser for the rest of your life?" Chelsea kept taunting Melody.
After seeing Melody's photo yesterday, Jaycob assured her that he would promote her to deputy manager if she could get Melody to sleep with him. Jaycob's gaze was suddenly drawn to Melody's entire body. Chelsea sensed that Jaycob was incredibly pleased.
"Never. I am married. I will not do such a thing!" Melody declined again.
"Do not be ungrateful. If you can't please Mr. Burris today, get out of here. VitaNova Pharmaceuticals will never execute an agreement with the Torris family!" Chelsea threatened.
"Xaiden, what should we do?" Melody tilted her head and gazed at Xaiden hopelessly.
"Ignore them. Your goal in coming here is to meet VitaNova Pharmaceuticals' chairman. Just go in."
Xaiden grinned at Melody. Yesterday, he had already made plans with Thane. As long as Melody came today, they would sign the deal.
