Chapter 2 Restored Sight
"The performance is over. Take the million and get lost."
As they reached the car, Melody pulled her hand away from Xaiden. Her voice was cold and cutting.
Despite her blindness, she could discern character. Anyone willing to marry her must be greedy or vain, qualities she despised.
Were it not for Bryan's pressure, she would rather remain single forever.
"Melody, I didn't marry you for money. I want to make you the happiest woman in the world. Please believe in me. Come with me; I have a friend who's an excellent doctor. She can cure your eye." Xaiden's voice was calm and sincere.
"Really? Can my eyes really be healed?" Melody's heart was touched by a flicker of hope.
Once a princess-like figure, her life had turned to misery due to her blindness and the false accusations she endured.
If her eyes could heal, she would be more than content.
"Trust me. In 10 days, you'll see again," Xaiden assured her with unwavering confidence.
"Okay." Melody found herself nodding as she followed Xaiden into the black business car.
The car had no license plates but bore a battle insignia at the top right corner, a symbol recognized by those of high status. It was the mark of the Invincible War God, a title held by Xaiden alone.
The car drove into Yuniza Estate, Josenz's most opulent estate. Covering over 0.6 acre, the estate was equipped with various recreational facilities and scenic spots, valued at five billion.
While no one had been able to afford it for years, Xaiden's car entered effortlessly.
Inside Yuniza Estate, Xaiden gently reached to remove the white cloth covering Melody's eyes. However, as he touched the cloth, she trembled violently.
"Please don't. I'm… I'm too ugly." Tears streamed down Melody's face.
"Melody, you've suffered all these years. Trust me, I will heal you," Xaiden whispered while removing the cloth.
Melody's eyes, corroded by poison, were now two masses of rotten flesh with scabs, surrounded by pustules—horribly disfigured.
One could only imagine the pain and helplessness Melody felt whenever she touched her own eyes.
Looking at her eyes, Xaiden firmly held the cloth and called out, "Bring the medicine."
Sean handed over the medicine prepared by Xaiden himself. Each ingredient was a priceless treasure, eagerly sought by many.
Xaiden carefully applied the medicine to Melody's eyes and the affected skin around them, then to her face, meticulously covering every inch. He then wrapped her head in layers of gauze.
"Am I really this hideous? Are you mocking me? Even the best doctors in Josenz said my eyes couldn't be cured." Melody cried again as she felt Xaiden apply the medicine.
"Melody, trust me. I can treat what others can't. Others don't adore you, but I will. I will protect you and never let you suffer again. Just give me 10 days, and I'll give you back your bright, beautiful eyes," Xaiden comforted Melody.
"Really? Can I really see in ten days?" Melody remained skeptical.
"Believe me. I wouldn't lie to you."
Although Melody couldn't see Xaiden, she felt the warmth and sincerity in his words—something she hadn't experienced in five years.
…
Ten days flew by. During this time, Melody lived like a princess in Yuniza Estate. Xaiden treated her with utmost care, preparing exquisite meals, fresh juices, and providing massages to lull her to sleep.
If the heads of prestigious families in Goldenia saw this, they would be shocked. They had offered their most outstanding daughters to Xaiden, who never spared them a glance. Yet, he was lavishing attention on Melody, a woman marked by misfortune.
…
In front of a pristine mirror, Melody, her face still bandaged, stood motionless. Xaiden was standing beside her.
"I'm scared… What if…"
"Trust yourself. You can do it," Xaiden reassured her.
"Can I really see? Even if I can, I'm so ugly. I don't want to see myself now." Melody's voice wavered with despair.
"You're the most beautiful woman in Josenz. See for yourself."
With Xaiden's support, Melody finally unwrapped the gauze from her head. Her eyes fluttered open slowly, bit by bit.
"This…" She was stunned.
In the mirror, she saw a flawless, radiant face with clear, bright eyes.
"Is this me? Am I dreaming?"
She couldn't believe her eyes. Xaiden's promise had seemed unbelievable, but now, not only had her vision been restored, but her face was also smooth and flawless. She was no longer ugly.
"It's not a dream; it's real." Xaiden smiled.
Melody couldn't hold back her emotions any longer and threw herself into Xaiden's arms, weeping uncontrollably.
In the past five years, she had endured coldness and ridicule, living in constant torment. Now, she was restored, her past sorrows dissipating like clouds.
Xaiden held her gently and whispered, "From now on, I will be your guardian. I will never let you suffer again."
Moved by his words, Melody blushed. "I'll go take a bath now. I haven't bathed in 10 days, and I must smell terrible."
She then hurried away in embarrassment.
Alone, Xaiden lit a cigarette and relaxed on the sofa.
At that moment, a figure flickered into the room.
