Chapter 4 Signing the Contract
"Grandma, please don't do this. My eyes and the wounds on my body were all healed by Xaiden's help. You also promised to marry me to him. You can't go back on your word," Melody pleaded tearfully while looking at Jennifer.
"Shut up! I'm your grandma, and I decide everything for you," Jennifer retorted coldly.
"You wicked girl, are you trying to infuriate me? Your grandma is absolutely right. With your looks now, you could easily find someone better. Why burden yourself with a rapist? Are you willing to bear a lifetime of infamy? Don't drag me and your father down." Renee slapped Melody across the face.
"If you… If you keep this up, I'll cut my own face!" Melody defiantly held up a fruit knife to her face.
"Stop it! How did the Torris Family end up with such a disgrace like you? Five years ago you sinned, and now you sin again." Jennifer angrily pounded her cane on the ground.
Xaiden, who had been silent all this while, suddenly moved. He gently approached Melody and reached out to take the fruit knife from her hand.
"Melody, do you want to be with me regardless of my identity?" he asked softly.
"Yes." Melody nodded firmly.
Without Xaiden, she would still be mocked for being ugly. It was Xaiden who transformed her into a beauty and treated her like a princess. She was deeply grateful.
"Grandma, Melody and I truly love each other. Please give us a chance." Xaiden turned to Jennifer.
"Give you a chance? Who do you think you are? You're just a rapist released from prison. You want to climb up to the Torris Family? Get out now and don't dirty our floors!"
Talon, the eldest grandson of the Torris Family, came forward and grabbed Xaiden's collar, ready to throw him out.
Despite his effort, Xaiden stood there unmoved.
"You still want to play tough with me, huh? Do you believe…"
Talon's words were cut short as Xaiden gripped one of his fingers, causing him to scream in pain.
"Ouch! It's painful! I'm sorry. Please let go!" Talon begged hastily.
Xaiden shook his head and tossed him out.
"Grandma, quickly order to throw this b*stard out. He almost broke my hand." Talon, having suffered a loss, immediately sought Jennifer's intervention.
"Enough. You just want money, don't you? Here's one million. Now get lost!" Jennifer turned to Xaiden.
"No, Grandma. You can't treat him like this." Melody immediately interceded for Xaiden.
"You've crossed the line. After curing your eyes, you don't even respect me.. Renee, take your daughter back and lock her up. I'll find a suitable husband for her." Jennifer's face turned stern.
"Wait! Grandma, am I not good enough for you? I can prove that I am no less than anyone else," Xaiden interjected as he stood in front of Melody.
"Prove it? How can you, a rapist, prove it? Look at yourself, besides physical strength, what else do you have? You have no family background and no connections. What do you have to compete with those aristocratic families?
"Fine, I'll give you a chance. The Torris Family deals in medicinal herbs and has always wanted to cooperate with VitaNova Pharmaceuticals, the largest herbal medicine company in Westavale. If you can secure a fifty million contract from VitaNova Pharmaceuticals, we will recognize you as a son-in-law." Talon sneered coldly.
He was clearly deliberately making things difficult for Xaiden.
With a market value of over a hundred billion, VitaNova Pharmaceuticals was headquartered in Goldenia. Although the branch in Josenz was just a small part, it was still a target for all the major families in Josenz.
"Alright, we'll do as Talon says. You have five days. If you can secure a fifty million order, I'll recognize you as my son-in-law. Otherwise, get out now," Jennifer concluded firmly.
"I don't need five days. I promise, by tomorrow, VitaNova Pharmaceuticals will sign a contract worth a hundred million with the Torris Family," Xaiden declared confidently, then took Melody and left the villa.
"You're not afraid of blowing your own trumpet, do you? Who do you think you are? Do you think VitaNova Pharmaceuticals will sign with you? If you really manage to sign a deal, I'll kneel down," Talon scoffed coldly at Xaiden's retreating figure.
"Mom, what if he really signs the deal? We can't let Melody marry him so cheaply, A fifty million deal is nothing; Melody has to marry into a wealthy family," Renee quickly voiced her concern to Jennifer.
"You shortsighted fool, do you think it's easy to sign a contract with VitaNova Pharmaceuticals? Let alone fifty million, even five thousand wouldn't be possible for him." Jennifer glanced at Renee disdainfully.
"That's right."
After listening to Jennifer's words, Renee finally felt a little relieved.
…
"Xaiden, I'm sorry. You cured me, but I can't keep you." After leaving Torris Residence, Melody cried as she looked at Xaiden.
"Don't cry. It's not pretty with tears on your face. Didn't Grandma say if I can secure the contract with VitaNova Pharmaceuticals, she'll recognize my status?"
"But that's VitaNova Pharmaceuticals!"
As a native of Josenz, Melody couldn't be unaware of VitaNova Pharmaceuticals, a giant worth billions, with most of its cooperation agreements controlled by the Four Great Families of Josenz.
The Torris Family was just a second-rate clan and had no chance to catch the eye of VitaNova Pharmaceuticals.
"Let's give it a try." Xaiden smiled faintly.
"I remember I have a classmate working at VitaNova Pharmaceuticals. Let me contact him first and see if there's an opportunity," Melody said.
"Okay."
After discussing for a while, Xaiden sent Melody home and then returned alone to Yuniza Estate.
"Summon the chairman of VitaNova Pharmaceuticals to see me," he said coldly through the phone.
