Chapter 10 She Bets on Darius
After hearing Alana's account, Darius finally understood that the car accident was not her fault at all.
The sabotaged braking and steering systems of her car left her at the mercy of fate. If Darius hadn't collided with her car, causing it to veer off course, she would have undoubtedly plunged into a nearby river. The ten feet of water would have drowned her.
Gratitude shone in Alana's eyes as she solemnly said, "That's why I owe you my thanks. If not for you, I'd be drowning in the river by now."
Darius sneered coldly, "You survived, but you almost cost the lives of me and my daughter!"
He couldn't fathom it. If he hadn't inherited his ancestors' supreme medical skills, they both would have been dead by now.
Alana said, "Thankfully, fate was on our side. Since you survived, it was meant to be. As I mentioned before, I will cover all your medical expenses, no matter the cost."
Her money didn't come easily, but she couldn't forget the moment when Darius shielded his daughter during the accident.
Darius had shown her what true fatherly responsibility looked like. She felt obliged to ensure this great fatherly love didn't end in regret.
Darius gradually calmed down. He did indeed need a substantial amount of money to buy herbs to make hexed cream for his daughter's scars. Without it, her disfigurement was inevitable.
Despite this, he insisted, "I'm fine now, but Carrie's burns are severe. Preventing her from being disfigured will cost at least 1.5 million. You still have time to retract your promise."
"You need so much money to cure her?" Alana instinctively exclaimed.
Just as Darius was about to explain, she said, "That money might be an insurmountable amount for you, but it's not a burden for me. Give me your bank account number, and I'll transfer the money right now."
Darius was stunned. Could there really be such a generous woman in this world?
When he received a message confirming the transfer, his mind finally stopped buzzing.
"Hey, are you plotting something against me? We're talking about millions, not hundreds. Giving it to me so easily makes me feel like there's a catch.
"Are you like that woman who made some inappropriate demands earlier? You'd better state all your conditions now so I can still return the money."
The recent request from Ash to enslave him still gave him chills.
Alana suddenly looked up at Darius, anger flashing in her eyes. She chided, "Don't lump me in with that tr*sh. I despise such vile tactics. You're a great father, so just focus on treating your daughter."
She handed him a business card, saying, "This is my contact information. If you ever need help, you can call me. I'll help you unconditionally three times. Remember, only three times. Cherish these opportunities."
Just as she was about to leave, Kevin hurried over and grabbed Darius's arm. He said, "Mr. Darius, I need your help to save a life."
Before Darius could react, Kevin was already pulling him away.
Darius forcefully shook off Kevin's hand, saying, "Dr. Mcbride, are you out of your mind? I'm a patient, not a doctor. Is this a joke?"
Kevin, full of urgency, said, "I'm not joking. Despite your serious injury, you miraculously recovered. Your daughter's bone and kidney injuries healed with just a touch from you. I wouldn't believe it without some extraordinary medical skills."
Darius cursed silently. Kevin, unlike Larry, wasn't foolish and had figured out his secret.
As Kevin dragged Darius away, a bodyguard approached Alana for instructions. "Ms. Alana, what about these two?"
A cold look crossed Alana's face as she commanded, "Dump this pair of sc*undrels in the mountains. Whether they survive depends on their luck.
"Have George investigate Darius as soon as possible. I want all his information within half an hour."
When she returned home, the butler, George Poole, had already neatly placed Darius's information in front of her.
"Ms. Alana, it seems there's nothing particularly special about Darius Fane. From grassroots entrepreneurship to a rising business star to his company's collapse, he doesn't differ much from many other entrepreneurs."
Alana's gaze sharpened and she asked coldly, "If that's all you've found, you can pack your bags and leave now."
The butler quickly added, "But the most bizarre event happened today. According to eyewitness videos, he was severely burned, with broken ribs and ruptured organs. Even if he had been saved, he would have been a cripple, certainly not capable of going out to ask for money and save his daughter."
As Alana flipped through the information, she saw the drastic change in Darius's appearance from severely burned to normal. This was definitely not consistent with modern medical science.
Her expression softened and she asked, "So you're saying he might have some special ability?"
George nodded and explained, "Although we can't determine if it's extraordinary medical skills or something else, I'm sure he's not ordinary. I'll continue to investigate him carefully."
Alana opened her phone's photo album and sent him a screenshot of the transfer. She said, "I just transferred money to him. Keep an eye on where this money goes and report any developments to me immediately."
"Yes, Ms. Alana. I'll make the arrangements right away."
As the butler left, Alana stood by the floor-to-ceiling window and lost herself in thought. Darius, what kind of man are you? Could you be the one I've been seeking but couldn't find?
Kevin was dragging Darius into the emergency room in the meantime.
"This patient was in a severe car accident and is now bleeding internally. All traditional medical methods have failed to stop the bleeding. I hope you can save him."
Other doctors and nurses stared in bewilderment. They were confused about why Kevin had brought an outsider into the emergency room. Was this a desperate measure?
Darius didn't have time to explain and shouted to a nurse, "Give me a box of silver needles! Pass it to me after you sterilise it!"
The nurse complied immediately, handing him the sterilised needles.
With a few deft moves, the patient's bleeding miraculously stopped. In the meantime, Darius had exhausted his last bit of golden energy.
"Remember, no one is to remove these needles without my permission."
With that final instruction, Darius collapsed to the ground and fell into a deep sleep.
