Chapter 9 The Dominant CEO
"How bold! How dare you speak to Ms. Alana like that? Do you have a death wish?"
Before Alana could respond, her bodyguard had already barked at Darius, adopting a stance ready to strike.
"You sc*undrel!
"Stand down!
"Slap yourself!"
Alana's sharp commands came in quick succession. The bodyguard immediately retreated and slapped himself hard three times.
Their interaction left Darius bewildered. Why would such a powerful woman come looking for him? Was it merely for entertainment? What did her apologies and gratitude mean?
After dismissing her bodyguard, Alana's intimidating aura vanished, replaced by a gentle and sensual demeanour.
She asked, "Darius, do you really not remember why I owe you an apology and my thanks?"
Darius shook his head in confusion. He said, "I don't want to waste my time with you here. Please leave and let my daughter rest."
Alana's stern gaze stopped the bodyguard from moving forward again.
With a look of sincere regret, Alana said, "Do you remember the license plate AA.66888? A Ferrari, remember?"
As she spoke, a flood of images rushed through Darius's mind like a movie.
Snap!
The memory stopped.
The car he had seen before passing out was indeed a Ferrari, and the license plate was AA.66888.
"It was you!
"You were the one who hit my daughter and me!
"You caused my severe injuries—my daughter's shattered legs and ruptured kidneys!
"You b*stard; you must take responsibility for my daughter. You must pay for your reckless driving!"
Darius's eyes turned red with fury as he lunged at Alana.
Had it not been for the unexpected inheritance from a sage doctor, he and Carrie would have died.
Only retribution could lessen his hatred.
"Ms. Alana, watch out!"
Three bodyguards launched themselves at Darius simultaneously.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
After three powerful blows, all three bodyguards flew away.
"How ... how could you be so strong?"
Alana couldn't help but express her amazement.
Darius himself didn't know why he was so strong. He only knew that when the crisis struck, a golden energy surged from his energy center, and he instinctively repelled the bodyguards.
But now, his mind was solely focused on his daughter. He doesn't care about all these.
Through gritted teeth, he demanded, "You have to apologise to my daughter!"
Alana said, "I came here to apologise to you. Please calm down; I mean no harm. I'll apologise to your daughter right now."
For some reason, Alana found herself admiring Darius's dominance and strength rather than feeling any resentment.
She approached the hospital bed. When Alana saw the severely injured Carrie, she couldn't help but feel sorrowful. Alana said, "I'm so sorry. It was me who caused this. I promise I'll take responsibility."
Carrie shook her head understandingly, speaking softly, "Don't cry. I'm okay. Daddy will heal Cari. Please don't cry."
Alana hadn't intended to cry, but Carrie's comforting words made her tears fall uncontrollably.
After a while, she wiped her tears and smiled. "So, your name is Cari. Don't worry; I'll do everything I can to heal you. It's a promise."
This was a promise to Carrie and to herself.
"Mm, I believe you. You're so beautiful, and you wouldn't lie to me, right?"
Alana nodded earnestly and repeated her promise over and over.
Perhaps it was her conscience, or perhaps Carrie's presence moved her. Once she decided on something, she would give it her all.
After composing herself, she faced Darius again, only to find that his hostility towards her hadn't diminished.
"Darius, I apologise once again for my mistakes."
She adopted the poise of the leading lady of the most wealthy family and bowed deeply to Darius.
Darius sneered coldly and said, "Do rich people get off so easily for their mistakes? Nearly killing two people in a car accident, and an apology suffices."
He had always despised the reckless ways of the rich. Alana's behaviour only intensified his contempt.
Alana spoke solemnly, "Regardless of the standpoint, I won't stop at a verbal apology. I'll cover all your medical expenses until you're fully recovered."
However, Darius refused.
"I'm fine now, and Cari's injuries are no longer a major concern. We don't need your help. Please leave."
Alana didn't budge. She stubbornly stood her ground and said, "I mean all your medical expenses, not just the injuries from the accident. I'll also cover the costs of treating your burns."
Hearing this, Darius trembled slightly.
He had been concerned about the high cost of the herbs needed to treat Carrie's facial burns. Alana's willingness to cover expenses, even if it meant borrowing him money, gave him hope.
"Ms. Alana, someone tampered with your brakes and forced you off the road," a bodyguard abruptly stepped forward and said. "You don't have to bear all this responsibility."
"Shut up!"
Alana suddenly roared at the bodyguard. The rage in her eyes was evident.
Darius frowned and asked, "What's going on?
"You'd better explain everything clearly. I may be poor, but I won't let an innocent person take the fall, nor will I accept tainted money."
Alana stared into his eyes and spoke each word clearly. "I make my money in a legal and honourable way. How dare you say my money is tainted?"
Darius didn't back down. He said, "If you are so honourable, then explain everything!"
Under his gaze, Alana's aura quickly dissipated.
"Interesting. You're the only man who doesn't fear me. You want answers? Fine, I'll tell you.
"I'll tell you what happened and why I am grateful. Once I explain, if you continue to refuse my money, I'll show you what the most powerful CEO in Wreka can do!"
