Chapter 2 The Sage Doctor's Legacy
Blood flowed freely. The ancient onyx ring on Darius' finger absorbed his blood and transformed into a stream of light, piercing the centre of his brows.
I'm Raphael Fane, the ancient sage doctor with boundless powers. Our lineage has ruled the world for ages. How could it have fallen to such disgrace in your generation? It infuriates me!
Forget it! Since you have received my legacy today, I will bestow upon you supreme medical skills. You must use them to heal the world, save others and yourself, and strengthen our Mystic Guild.
The aged voice echoed in Darius's mind, jolting him awake from unconsciousness.
I was hit by a car, wasn't I? Why am I in a hospital room? Am I hallucinating because of the crash?
As Darius questioned himself, an overwhelming amount of knowledge began to flood his mind.
Supreme cultivation techniques, ancient medical skills, needle therapy techniques, and herbal formulas—the vast knowledge almost burst into his head.
Boom!
A massive explosion of energy exploded within his abdomen, transforming into countless streams of power that nourished his entire body, making him involuntarily moan in relief.
"This isn't a dream; it's real," he muttered in shock.
When he focused his thoughts, the contents of the 'Soulsliver Codex' immediately surfaced in his mind. A simple shift in his thoughts revealed the contents of the 'Healer's Manuscript.'
More astonishingly, his previously blurred memories started to clear up, almost enabling him to recognise the faces of those who had pursued him over two decades ago.
Simultaneously, a diagnosis of his current condition appeared in his mind.
'Diagnosis: severe back injury; three fractured ribs on the left chest; one fractured rib on the right chest; a left lung punctured with severe bleeding; multiple organ ruptures with serious internal bleeding. Approximately seventy-five percent of the skin shows mild to moderate burns.'
'Cause: Impact and severe burns.'
Darius was bewildered by the stream of information in his mind. Surviving such injuries was nothing short of a miracle. Was this the prowess of the sage doctor's legacy?
Looking at his left palm, he noticed a faintly visible aurora bloom, almost imperceptible.
He sighed in frustration and mumbled, "What's the use of diagnosing if I'm broke and can't afford the treatment?"
No sooner had he spoken, a warm energy surged from his energy centre, rapidly healing his injuries.
Despite the depletion of his golden energy, all his internal and external injuries healed within minutes.
Clenching his rejuvenated fist, he marvelled, "Who would've thought that ring of mine contained the sage doctor's legacy? Could the Sage doctor be my ancestor? I must uncover my origins when the time is right."
Just then, urgent footsteps approached from outside the room.
"Dr. Mcbride, hurry up! The patient is bleeding internally and won't last much longer. We need to operate immediately."
Kevin Mcbride ordered, "Contact the central blood bank right away and request plasma support."
However, when they reached the operating room, they saw Darius sitting up on the hospital bed. The medical staff felt their jaws drop.
Kevin stared at Darius and asked, "What's going on? You said he was about to die! How is he sitting up as if nothing happened?"
The nurse, who had hurried them, was equally shocked. She stammered, "I ... I don't know. When we brought him in, he was practically dead. I don't understand how he's fine now."
"Check him now!" Kevin ordered, leading the examination himself.
Darius jumped off the bed. He gripped Kevin's shoulders firmly and demanded, "Where's my daughter? Which room is she in?"
Realising the urgency, Kevin quickly responded, "The little girl? She's in the next room, Operating Room 1."
Darius sprinted out of the operating room, leaving the nurse behind. She sighed. "Such a beautiful girl; it's a shame her life is ruined."
When Darius pushed open the door, he almost broke down in tears.
Carrie lay alone on the bed, half of her face horribly burned and her legs twisted from multiple fractures.
"Cari, it's all my fault. Daddy is so sorry."
Choking with emotion, he approached and took her hand, triggering a diagnostic message that showed up in his mind.
'Diagnosis: comminuted fractures in both legs, ruptured kidneys, and fifty-four percent facial burns.'
'Cause: impact trauma and severe burns.'
Darius was elated. Of course! I have the sage doctor's legacy. I can save my daughter!
However, when he tried to channel his golden energy, he found it depleted. Instead, another treatment plan appeared in his mind.
'Ebon Bonecraft, Pentagram Needles, and Hexed Cream—all three must be used together to heal Carrie completely. The ingredients for hexed cream included ... '
As he delved deeper into the legacy, he learned that direct healing with golden energy required reaching a specific level or illuminating the aurora bloom on his palm.
Until then, he had to rely on needle therapy and medicinal treatments.
Well, at least there's a way! Darius consoled himself.
When he saw the list of rare divine materials—mercy flower, thousand-year demon root, moon ginger, thousand-year Siqelt, and thousand-year Worosia—his heart sank.
Collecting these rare and ancient materials would take an enormous amount of time, and even if he found them, could he afford them?
Such priceless materials were beyond his reach.
Filled with a profound sense of helplessness, he looked at Carrie with guilt in his eyes.
"Cari, Daddy is so sorry."
Carrie, who was lying on the hospital bed, seemed to sense her father's presence. Her face contorted in pain as she slowly awoke.
"Daddy, you're here. You said we'd travel the world and eat the best ice cream, but I don't think I'll make it.
"I'm getting sleepy. The teacher said that when we sleep, we become stars in the sky. I'll watch over you from there.
"Daddy, why are you crying? Please don't cry."
Fighting back tears, Darius promised, "Don't be afraid, Cari. Daddy won't let you die. I'll heal you, I swear.
"Just wait; I'll find a way to get the money. I'll heal you, no matter what it takes."
