Chapter 8 Warmth In The Ward
Aurora Sinclair spent a sleepless night.
When the first ray of dawn broke in the morning, Aurora Sinclair opened the door again. The corridor outside was empty, showing no signs of anyone having been there. Only a few doctors were rushing about busily in the hallway.
A faint sneer crossed Aurora Sinclair's lips.
At the same time, the atmosphere at Miller Group was rather strange.
"CEO, the operations of other subsidiaries are going well. However, there are some issues with the market feedback of the fashion studio Virtue lately. We originally planned to conduct brand promotion during this Milan Fashion Week. But a brand named Rhamnousia under a studio in the United States is extremely similar to ours in terms of style and promotional plan, and they are deliberately suppressing us." The assistant stole a glance at Ryan Miller, who was clearly absent - minded. He was quite surprised. The CEO, who was always as precise as a clock, was late for no apparent reason today and looked rather haggard.
Ryan Miller furrowed his brows. "Rhamnousia... The goddess of revenge Nemesis in Greek mythology?" For some reason, a strange sense of crisis suddenly flashed through his mind.
"Did you just say this is a brand of a studio in the United States?"
"Yes, CEO. Their headquarters is in New York." The assistant respectfully handed the documents to Ryan Miller. "We haven't been able to figure out exactly who the owner of the studio is. All we know is that it's a Chinese - American."
"Keep investigating."
"Mom..."
When Eric Sinclair woke up, seeing Aurora Sinclair's swollen eyes from crying, he sleepily reached out his little hand to touch her face. "Mom, don't cry..."
"Dodo!"
Aurora Sinclair woke up from her sleep. Looking at her son's clear eyes staring straight at her, her nose twitched. "Oh my god, Mom was almost scared to death, my Dodo."
She couldn't help but want to hug the pale - faced Little Cutie on the bed. But fearing to hurt him, she gently held Little Cutie's face and kissed it. "Are you hungry? How about Mom prepares some liquid food for you?"
"No, I want Mom to go to sleep right away." Little Cutie was firm. "You must not have rested well. You're almost turning into a panda."
Aurora Sinclair couldn't help but laugh through her tears. "I'll go buy some nourishing soup for my baby. I'll go to sleep after watching you drink it."
She kissed Eric Sinclair's forehead again, then picked up her bag and rushed out.
Eric Sinclair was staring at the ceiling in a daze when hesitant footsteps suddenly came from the door. It seemed that a tall and slender figure was standing there quietly.
"Dad?"
Little Cutie called out tentatively. Then, with a creak, the door opened, and Ryan Miller stood at the door, looking a bit nervous. "I'm here. Does Dodo feel uncomfortable anywhere?"
Eric Sinclair looked at the man who was always elegant, proper, and meticulous in every meeting with curiosity. There were two dark patches under his eyes. He asked tentatively, "How many days haven't you slept?"
"About two days." Ryan Miller rubbed his throbbing temples. He raised his head, pursed his lips, and then said, "Your mom... doesn't really want me to see you."
"I can't do anything about it. I listen to Mom." Eric Sinclair held back his laughter. Seeing the man standing there at a loss, like a primary school student who had made a mistake, he suddenly felt a bit sorry for his father. "But you can try to win Mom over first, and then me."
"How can I win your mom over?" Ryan Miller slightly narrowed his eyes, asking for advice earnestly.
"You're so silly, Dad. Girls like sweet talk, romance, and meticulous care." Eric Sinclair looked at him with a look of disappointment. "Think about it. Now that I'm hurt, Mom must be very sad and vulnerable. You should care more about her by her side at this time, right?"
Ryan Miller:???
Just as Aurora Sinclair entered the ward, she saw the man sitting by the bedside, listening attentively to Little Cutie chattering on about her daily preferences, looking as if he was about to take out a notebook to take notes.
"Dad, I..."
Ryan Miller frowned. Seeing his fair and tender Little Cutie suddenly looking at something behind him with a horrified expression, he immediately understood. He turned around to look at the door of the ward. The silence in the air was almost unbearable.
"Ryan Miller, I've warned you many times..."
Aurora Sinclair's anger seemed to reach its peak. She threw the food box in her hand at Ryan Miller without hesitation.
"Don't come looking for me and the child again!"
The well - tailored, expensive suit was instantly covered with the thick - smelling soup. He was drenched in chicken soup, looking rather wretched.
"Mom..."
Little Cutie was obviously quite frightened. He stared blankly at Aurora Sinclair and Ryan Miller, one being furious and the other remaining silent. His big eyes were instantly filled with tears.
"Dodo, don't cry. Mom isn't scolding you. I'm sorry, Dodo."
Aurora Sinclair pushed Ryan Miller aside in a hurry and walked over to comfort the child. But suddenly, her foot slipped, and she fell straight towards the bedside table.
A long and slender hand quickly pulled her into his arms, preventing Aurora Sinclair's forehead from hitting the table. However, the soup on the floor was too slippery. Ryan Miller couldn't steady his center of gravity for a moment, and with Aurora Sinclair in his arms, he plopped down on the floor.
"Pfft."
Little Cutie couldn't help but laugh.
"I'll go call the nurse."
Ryan Miller helped her up. The faint fragrance lingering at the tip of his nose made his back suddenly feel a bit stiff. He left the ward in a hurry.
"Mom, actually, I think Dad is nice..."
Eric Sinclair hesitated for a moment before speaking. "He should really know his mistake."
"He told me everything and sincerely repented." Eric Sinclair looked at his mother seriously. "Don't you want to give him a chance?"
Not long after, Ryan Miller walked in, carrying an exquisite food box and two paper bags. He had already changed into a new set of clothes, and no trace of the previous mess could be seen. But when Aurora Sinclair saw his face, she couldn't help but think of him being covered in chicken soup just now.
"I asked my assistant to send lunch again and brought you a change of clothes." Ryan Miller pursed his lips and placed the paper bags and food box on the sofa. "I'll feed Dodo the soup. You go to the bathroom and change." Aurora Sinclair saw the look of expectation in Ryan Miller's eyes. Eventually, she couldn't bring herself to drive him away anymore. She nodded and took the paper bag into the bathroom.
The facilities in this VIP ward were quite complete. Although the bathroom wasn't very spacious, there were a hair dryer and basic toiletries. Aurora Sinclair took a quick shower and put on the dress. She was a bit surprised that the size fit her perfectly.
After all these years... Could this man still remember her size?
Aurora Sinclair furrowed her brows and walked out of the bathroom. Just then, she saw Ryan Miller clumsily holding a small spoon, blowing the soup in it, and carefully feeding it to Dodo's mouth, one spoonful at a time.
"I'll do it..."
Aurora Sinclair walked up to Ryan Miller and was about to take the bowl when Dodo suddenly said, "Mom, I want to eat candy."
"No way."
"I'll go buy some."
Ryan Miller looked at Aurora Sinclair and then at his son, pursing his lips.
"You can go."
Aurora Sinclair sighed. Watching the man leave the ward as if he had received an imperial edict, she suddenly felt a slight touch in her heart.
Moments later, Ryan Miller came in with two bodyguards, carrying two huge boxes.
"I didn't know what Dodo likes to eat, so I bought a little of everything."
"I remember you used to like plum candy, so I bought more of that."
Aurora Sinclair highly suspected that someone had emptied the candy shelf of the convenience store at the hospital entrance.
"Kids can't eat too much candy. It'll cause tooth decay." Aurora Sinclair rubbed her temples. "Adults are the same."
"I'll remember that."
Ryan Miller stood by the bedside, like a well - behaved primary school student listening to the teacher's lecture. The two bodyguards couldn't help but be astonished. There really is karma! The CEO, who is always the one scolding others, was actually being scolded so obediently one day!
