Chapter 9 The Little Girl From The Past

"We have some leads," Stefan said simply. "That's great." Thomas smiled. "I was wondering how you would repay her. I actually hoped you would marry her, but I never expected you to marry a stranger." Stefan completely ignored Thomas' words. Thomas felt disappointed and awkward. However, when he looked at the wheelchair, his eyes couldn't help but flicker. "Um... Stefan, did you tell your wife about your legs?" Stefan had already started browsing through the financial report that the finance department had just submitted. When he heard Thomas' question, he paused for a moment. After a while, he whispered, "No." Hearing his answer, Thomas frowned and said, "I don't want to say this, Stefan, but you are already married to your wife. No matter what your intention was for marrying her, do you plan to keep hiding it forever? Maybe..." He paused for a moment before gritting his teeth and continuing, "Maybe you should try and see if you can accept this woman or not. You can't live in the past forever." He knew Stefan well. Although Stefan claimed that marrying this woman was to deal with the elders in the family, he wouldn't have married or lived with a stranger if he didn't have the slightest liking for her. Stefan remained silent and didn't respond to Thomas' words. After quickly scanning the report, he said softly, "You're overthinking it. I won't fall in love with another woman." Thomas was stunned. As he stared at Stefan's indifferent face, a hint of pity flashed across his eyes. The car accident ten years ago was a nightmare for all of them. Everyone thought Stefan had lost his legs in that accident, but they were all wrong. In that accident, Stefan didn't lose his legs but his heart. … When Whitney returned home from work, she saw Sebastian and Rose dragging their suitcases into the living room. "Rose, Sebastian, what's happening?" "Madam, our son is getting married tomorrow. We're going to attend his wedding," Sebastian kindly explained. "I see. Congratulations," Whitney said. "How long will the wedding last?" "We'll be back tomorrow night." Rose smiled gently. When her gaze fell on Stefan, she became worried. "However, if there's no one at home, there won't be anyone to prepare breakfast for Mr. Morrison." Hearing her words, Whitney felt awkward. As a werewolf in the wealthy district, one would no longer need to busy themselves with trivial matters. Even an easy job like making breakfast had a dedicated middle-rank wolf to take care of it. "It's fine," Stefan said, interrupting Whitney's thoughts. "Whitney, can you cook?" "Huh?" Whitney didn't react at first. When she raised her head, she was met with Stefan's dark eyes. "I... I can." After Whitney answered, she remembered the delicious breakfast Marilyn had made in the morning. Thus, she couldn't help but add, "A little..." A hint of amusement flashed in Stefan's eyes, but it quickly disappeared. "A little is enough," he said softly. The next morning, Whitney woke up an hour earlier and finally put together a decent breakfast. Just as she was about to call Stefan, she saw him coming out of the elevator. "Do you have any batteries?" Whitney was momentarily stunned before recognizing the electric shaver in Stefan's paw. She took it and looked at it. "It needs button batteries. Don't we have any at home?" "No." Whitney glanced at Stefan. His chin was already covered in stubble and needed a shave. "Are there any convenience stores or supermarkets nearby?" "No." Whitney suddenly felt lost. "Nothing at all?" Stefan shook his head. At that moment, Whitney realized that the life of the wealthy wasn't necessarily better than the poor. After all, she couldn't even find a place to buy batteries. "What should we do now?" Whitney felt helpless. "Why don't you ask your assistant to buy it?" "He's already on his way. I have an important meeting today. I'm afraid I don't have the time," Stefan said with a slight frown. "I asked Mike. Although he has a new razor, it's not electric. I'm not very skilled at using it," Stefan continued. Whitney was momentarily stunned before she understood why Stefan had come to her. He wanted her to help him shave. "Where is it?" Whitney suddenly found Stefan quite endearing and pursed her lips. "I know how to use it. I can help you shave." "It's in the storage cabinet," Stefan replied. Whitney soon found the razor. It was the old-fashioned kind that required lubricant. After carefully applying the lubricant to Stefan's chin, she began to shave him carefully. At that moment, Whitney and Stefan were in close proximity. Whitney's breath even brushed against Stefan's cheek. Stefan looked up and saw Whitney's face up close, even the tiny hairs on her fair skin. She looked delicate. I must admit, she is beautiful, isn't she, Stefan? Pessi asked Stefan. He could feel Stefan's heart beating rapidly. "What's the matter?" Whitney seemed to notice Stefan's gaze and suddenly became nervous. "I didn't cut you, did I?" "No," Stefan replied in his usual cold tone. "I feel like you seem to be my wife when you shave my beard." Whitney was taken aback, and her cheeks flushed. However, she soon calmed down. After all, Stefan had used the word "seems," which indicated that he had the same thought as her. They were not a real couple. Instead, they were just two strangers sharing a rented place. "Done." She quickly finished shaving Stefan's beard. She carefully wiped off the shaving cream and inspected him. Then, she smiled and said, "It's clean." "Thank you," Stefan said lightly. Then, he wheeled himself to the dining table to have his meal. Because of the intimate contact just now, both of them felt awkward during the meal. Whitney even forgot to ask Stefan if he was satisfied with her cooking skills. After finishing the meal, Jason arrived. Stefan was in a hurry today and couldn't accompany Whitney to the subway station, so she called a cab and went directly to the magazine office. When she arrived at the office, she noticed that the atmosphere differed from yesterday's cheerful mood. It was tense. Whitney grabbed Stella's arm and whispered, "What's going on?" "Whitney, didn't you read the email this morning?" Stella widened her eyes. "Our office was bought yesterday! The entire management team has been replaced!" In that split second, Whitney was stunned. Although their office was small, it had been a well-established publication for several years. So, how could it suddenly be bought? Before she could react, she heard a commotion from her colleagues near the door. "He's here! The new editor-in-chief has arrived!" Whitney looked up and saw a slender figure walking into the magazine office while being surrounded by a group of people. As soon as she saw the person's face, Whitney felt like she had been struck by lightning, and her blood froze. D*mn it! It's him! He's back! Leia roared.
