The rain tapped against Genevieve’s window like fingers desperate to be let in. Her apartment was dim, scented with bergamot and warm sandalwood. She wore Gideon’s shirt, loose, soft, still carrying the warmth of his last embrace. She paced, barefoot, one eye flicking toward the door every few seconds. Midnight had long passed. Gideon was never this late.
A knock cut through the silence. Three firm raps. She paused. Her pulse rose.
