Genevieve’s apartment was still, the kind of quiet that wrapped around her like a noose, tight, heavy, unrelenting. The only sound was the low hum of the refrigerator and the faint rustle of her oversized hoodie as she curled deeper into the lumpy couch. The television was on, flickering images across her tired face, but she wasn’t watching. She hadn't really watched anything in days.
A chipped mug sat beside her, the tea inside long cold. The scent of lavender hung faintly in the air, her attempt at peace, but nothing could settle the war inside her chest. She had left Rockwell Enterprises. She had walked away from Silas. She had walked away from the only thing that had ever made her feel seen, even if it had come wrapped in power plays and emotional chess.
