Silas sat hunched forward on the metal bench just outside Jasper’s ICU. The white walls around him seemed to pulse under the fluorescent light. His elbows dug into his knees, fingers laced so tightly his knuckles had turned bone-white. His suit jacket, still blood-smeared on the sleeve, hung like a forgotten shroud. His usually composed face was now cracked, eyes hollow, jaw clenched, the sharp cut of his cheekbone twitching with restrained fury.
He hadn’t moved in nearly an hour.
