Chapter 6 You Think I Am a Burden
Benjamin furrowed his brow and grabbed the little one who was trying to run out. He pulled him into his arms and sternly scolded him, "What's all the fuss about?"
His behavior irritated Benjamin.
How could the heir of the Graham family be so impatient, shouting and throwing a tantrum like that?
When Jasper saw his father's angry glare and heard the cold reprimand, he felt utterly unsupported and burst into tears, completely overwhelmed.
The crying was enough to tug at anyone's heartstrings.
"You're not my daddy. You're a bad guy!"
Benjamin's handsome face grew stormy as he stared at the child crying uncontrollably in his arms.
The child's cries were piercing, almost deafening.
"Benjamin, don't scold him so harshly. Gavin, come to Mommy. Mommy was wrong. I apologize. Mommy will buy you what you like to eat, okay?"
Danna leaned in, trying to pull the little one toward her. Little did she know, Jasper wasn't Gavin at all. He hated her so much that he wouldn't cooperate.
It was all this woman's fault that Benjamin had scolded him!
"Don't talk to me! You don't like me! Stop faking it. You're not my mommy! You're a fake!" Jasper yelled at Danna.
The car fell silent in an instant.
Danna's heart raced with shock and panic. How did this little b*stard know?
She quickly suppressed her unease and glanced at Benjamin. He was staring at the little one in his arms, his expression cold and distant.
"Benjamin, he ... "
Danna's eyes filled with tears instantly as if she was wronged and hurt by Jasper's rejection. She looked at the little one with sad eyes and tried to coax him.
"Gavin, how could Mommy not like you? You're Mommy's child. Mommy carried you for ten months, and Mommy almost had complications during childbirth ...
"Are you mad because Mommy didn't call you? Mommy was busy with work, but I'll always remember to call you from now on, okay? Don't be mad at Mommy. Mommy is so heartbroken ... "
Jasper watched Danna, who was still putting on her act and rolled his eyes internally.
He wasn't going to be tricked!
He turned away and discreetly glanced at Benjamin. As soon as their eyes met and he saw Benjamin glaring at him, the little one immediately started crying even harder, tears streaming down his face.
"None of you like me. You think I'm a burden, don't you?"
He couldn't act too hastily. He couldn't let Danna suspect anything, so he needed to play his cards right to deal with her later.
On the surface, Jasper appeared deeply wronged, sobbing with his shoulders trembling, but inside, he was calculating his next move.
"Stop crying! No one thinks you're a burden!"
Benjamin had never seen his son cry like this, and for a moment, he didn't know how to comfort him.
"Really?" Jasper threw himself into Benjamin's arms, clutching him tightly. His small body shook, and his voice was so pitiful that it made it hard to bear.
Hearing the fear of being abandoned in his voice, Benjamin's heart tightened. He pulled his son into his arms, gently patting his head, and said reassuringly, "Really!"
Danna watched them and let out a quiet sigh of relief.
But Ethen noticed her expression and a hint of confusion flickered in his gaze.
There had never been this kind of tension between Ms. Adams and Mr. Gavin before. While they weren't as close as some mothers and sons, they had never been at odds like this either.
Mr. Gavin had been acting very out of character today ...
...
Meanwhile, Arissa had returned to the house with her four children and started tidying up.
Gavin hid in the bathroom, secretly using his high-tech phone to access the security cameras at his home with Benjamin.
When he saw Jasper following Benjamin into the house, he finally felt relieved and ran out to help with the cleaning.
After they had settled in, it was time for dinner. The family ordered takeout and sat around the dining table, enjoying a lively meal together.
Gavin kept a low profile, speaking only occasionally to avoid giving anything away, and no one seemed to notice anything unusual about him.
Only the eldest, Zachary, felt that his younger brother seemed a bit different. However, he didn't press him about whether he was Jasper.
After dinner, Arissa rushed the children to take a bath and get to bed. She quickly got ready herself and went to sleep.
On the way to Villa No. 1 in Yaleview, Jasper had cried himself to sleep.
Benjamin looked at the little one in his arms, tears still lingering on his lashes. He gently wiped them away and carried him out of the car.
"Benjamin, let me handle it. I am his mother, after all." Danna tried to follow them inside, but Benjamin turned to her, his voice cold and detached, as always. "No need."
Danna felt a bit at a loss. He was angry at her.
Benjamin took a few steps forward with his son, then stopped, turned his head, and shot her an icy look.
"Even if you think he's done something wrong in the future, watch your attitude! Speak gently to him. Now, leave!"
Benjamin made a gesture for the butler to escort her out, then walked into the villa with his son.
Danna stood frozen, staring at the man's cold, emotionless back as he entered, feeling heartbroken.
It had been five years, but why was he still so cold and heartless toward her?
Was he still blaming her for the things she had done?
