Chapter 14 Sabastian's Pain
Sabastian POV:
It is a pity to say that one's future is empty; only silence can make effusions to Scarlett's confession. Even the faintest sound of traffic below, citylike, was able to be heard into the depths of this silence in which my hand hardly lay on her cheek. It felt oddly comfortable, unlike the cold, tightly wound grip of my practiced indifference; I had accessed a deeper level of hearing, listening, really listening to all the raw, unfiltered pain pouring from her, and how that pain related to me at my very core-stirring within me agonizing and yet strangely purging chaos. Intellectually, I knew that what I did caused her great pain, but to learn it from her, to see her devastated by what I had done, brought the full weight of betrayal crashing home.
