Chapter 18 Shadows Of The Labyrinth
Kaiza and Mina pushed on, the walls of the ancient labyrinth pulsing with an unseen heartbeat. But the air was heavy, a thick blend of stale earth and the sour tang of blood, the scent lingering from the wraith’s short but riotous assault. Although the creature was dead, the dark cloy of the tunnel felt even thicker, as if the stones had absorbed centuries of hatred and evil.
That there were eyes on him, shadows pulled around in the depths of the movement, brushing against the soul of the world hidden in the spiraling depths of something older than time itself, older than them. Every step was leaden, the atmosphere more viscous, and he was aware that the worst remained before him. He tightened his grip on the piece of obsidian; though dim, its glow cast long shadows on the walls, the only comfort in the crushing dark.
