Chapter 8 Meeting Daniel Carter
Levi couldn't help but wonder if the Dragon Healer was really as exceptional as they said.
Before long, the car pulled up to the Carter family's mansion.
The mansion wasn't in the downtown area; it was out in the suburbs, near Mount Invine. It was a pretty spot, surrounded by beautiful mountains and clear water, perfect for living.
The Carter family mansion sat atop a mountain, covering dozens of acres of prime land.
Right now, everyone from the Carter family was already waiting at the entrance.
They didn't know why the head of the family had made such arrangements, but hearing that a big shot was coming had them on high alert.
The luxurious convoy slowly rolled into the courtyard. Once Levi got out of the car, he opened the door for Alexei and motioned for him to step out.
Everyone was watching closely. When Alexei finally stepped out, wearing a T-shirt and shorts with a box in his hand, there were confused glances exchanged.
Is this really the big shot? they must've thought.
Levi spoke up, "This is Mr. Walker, the one I invited to treat my father. He's known as the Dragon Healer. His medical skills are unmatched."
The Carter family members started whispering among themselves, unsure if this young guy could really live up to his reputation.
A middle-aged man, a little on the chubby side, stepped forward with a smile and extended his hand. "Hey, Dragon Healer. I'm Ivan Carter, second in line in the family."
"Yeah," Alexei said, sounding indifferent, but didn't even reach out to shake his hand.
Ivan's hand stayed frozen in the air, awkwardly. He couldn't hide his frustration. This guys got no manners!'
The other Carter family members exchanged uncomfortable looks.
For a family that could control Lenoville, it was a bit of a shock to have one of their own make such an effort to greet this guest, only to be completely ignored.
Alexei saw how everyone was reacting, but he didn't really care. He wasn't interested in socializing, less hassle would be ideal.
After all, he was here to treat the man for Lord of Gapdiff, and nothing else mattered. No matter how important these people seemed, it wasn't his problem.
Levi noticed his brother about to lose it and quickly stepped in. "Mr. Walker's had a long journey. Let's not make a big deal of it. We'll welcome him properly later."
"There's no need for all that. Let's just get to treating your father," Alexei said, waving his hand. "Take me to him. Everyone else can stay behind."
Levi forced a smile, but he still managed to say, "Mr. Walker, this way, please."
Once they left, the murmurs started.
"Seriously? Does he think he's that special?"
"Yeah, no manners at all. Miracle doctor? Dragon Healer, my ass."
"I'm pretty sure he's a fraud. No way someone that young could be a real doctor."
"Did Levi mess up this time?"
"Can a guy like that actually help?"
The whispers got louder, and doubts about Alexei's credentials grew. Just then, Ivan cleared his throat. "Relax, everyone. I've already called in Jason Parker from Jetpolis. He's on his way."
"Jason Parker? You mean the Miracle Doctor?" someone asked.
Ivan puffed his chest out. "Yep, that's him!"
Right as Alexei reached the door, a series of rough, coughing fits came from inside the room.
Levi opened the door and they were hit with the strong scent of herbs and disinfectant.
The room, almost a thousand square feet, was filled with medical equipment. Nurses in full gear were recording numbers on the machines. It looked like an ICU.
A thin old man, Daniel Carter, was lying in the hospital bed with an oxygen mask on and tubes running into his body.
If it weren't for the occasional cough, anyone walking in might think he was already gone.
Alexei stepped in and frowned just a little. He noticed the expensive herbs sitting by the old man's bed.
Naganlin, a rare herb worth a fortune, was tossed in the corner like garbage.
Ambrose, which was hard to find, was piled up on the table like vegetables at a market.
Forget the medical equipment, just the herbs meant to keep Daniel alive were worth over 1 million dollars.
At that moment, a middle-aged doctor in a white coat walked up, greeting them with a respectful nod. "Mr. Carter."
"Mr. Walker, this is Henry Diaz. He's a well-known doctor I brought in from abroad. He's been the one holding my dad together. Without him, I'm not sure..." Levi's voice trailed off.
Then he turned to introduce Alexei. "Dr. Diaz, this is Mr. Walker. They call him the Dragon Healer in the medical world."
Alexei gave a slight nod, then turned his focus to Daniel in the bed.
