Chapter 4 Unconventional Medicine
Meanwhile, in the reception room of the Finch residence, Arthur was hosting a distinguished guest—Carlo Gambino, the powerful leader of the old-school Gambino mafia family from Cheville.
The other party had an arms production line. By establishing a collaboration with the Gambino family, arms could be acquired at a significantly lower price.
The negotiations between both sides went smoothly and they quickly reached an agreement.
Carlo clearly had high regard for Arthur, the rising star of the underworld. He seized the opportunity and proposed, “Arthur, you're an impressive young man. I heard you're not married. How about I introduce you to my daughter?”
A slight frown creased Arthur's brow.
Members of the mafia never beat around the bush.
Carlo appeared to be contemplating Arthur's marriage. However, he also had plans to test him further. He considered using matrimonial ties to unite the Finch and Gambino families.
The Gambino family was no longer what it once was. While it was now in decline, the Finch family was steadily on the rise. At best, they could only engage in business discussions. Forming an alliance would invite the Gambino family's numerous enemies, a risk that far outweighed any potential benefits for the Finch family.
If Arthur were to outright reject Carlo, it could potentially bring unnecessary complications to the business deal at hand.
Arthur hesitated, considering how to refuse without offending Carlo, when a jarring noise sounded from the phone he had left on the table.
“Excuse me.” He took the opportunity to glance at his phone.
Carlo was magnanimous, waving his hand to show he didn't mind.
Arthur immediately opened the message. He saw the group photo and the voice message.
The sight of the two children in the photo momentarily stunned him, but he quickly regained his composure.
In an era where AI technology was advanced, such a photo didn't prove much.
He played the voice message.
“Bro, I just ran into two little boys at the airport who looked exactly like you when you were a kid. Have you been secretly raising some kids outside?”
Adrian's voice, filled with excitement and a touch of mockery, echoed throughout the modest-sized reception room. It was too late for Arthur to feel any regret.
Across from him, Carlo was momentarily taken aback before a knowing smile spread across his face. “So, you've been keeping your cards close to your chest, huh? Seems like I've underestimated you young folks.”
After he finished speaking, he gave Arthur a pat on the shoulder. “Pleasure doing business with you.”
A hint of embarrassment crossed Arthur's face. “Likewise, and I hope you can keep this confidential.”
“Of course, we're all men after all!”
Carlo made a teasing remark before leaving the reception room. The topic of the alliance through marriage wasn't mentioned again.
While it seemed as though everything had been perfectly resolved, Arthur still had many lingering questions. He replied to Adrian: Where are you? I'll come pick you up.
Upon receiving the address from Adrian, Arthur loosened his collar slightly, grabbed his car keys, and exited the reception room.
Meanwhile, Luna hailed a cab and, along with Paxton and Daxton, headed to a friend's lavishly decorated house. Since the Smith residence had already been taken over by Edward, Luna naturally wouldn't walk into a trap.
From the thirty-second floor, the sweeping view of Crownford unfolded below.
The place had been empty for over a year. When Luna's friend Greg Lawson, who lived abroad, heard that she was returning home, he provided her with the keys to the house.
Luna opened the refrigerator, only to find it empty.
“Paxton, Daxton, let's go downstairs and buy some stuff.”
“Okay!”
Paxton and Daxton immediately got up and followed behind Luna.
After walking for a few minutes, they found themselves in the heart of the city's busiest and largest shopping district.
As soon as they entered the mall, Paxton and Daxton instinctively grabbed a shopping cart each, following closely behind Luna.
Having made her selections, Luna was in a good mood as she waited to check out.
Suddenly, an old man up ahead clutched his chest and gradually collapsed.
His face turned pale, and drenched in sweat, he collapsed to the ground.
“Quick, dial 911!”
Suddenly, the crowd erupted into chaos. A man who looked like a bodyguard hurried over from not too far away. In a state of panic, he asked, “Is there a doctor here? Is there a doctor?”
“Excuse me, I'm a doctor.”
Luna walked straight over, took a quick glance, and declared, “He's having a heart attack.”
She rolled up her sleeves, exposing her well-defined arm muscles.
Her six years abroad weren't just spent evading pursuers and raising her children.
Having traveled around the world, she had picked up quite a few skills.
This included unconventional medicine.
The bodyguard flinched, abruptly seizing Luna's hand which was about to touch the old man. “Wait a minute! What do you think you're doing?”
Luna pushed him away, her voice cold as she said, “The closest ambulance would take at least ten minutes to get here. Do you think he can hold on for that long?”
Disregarding the bodyguard's disgruntled expression, Luna lifted the old man's casual attire and began to massage him.
