Chapter 13 The Discarded Card
Elbert was enraged and slammed the counter.
He shouted, "Then hurry up and get it delivered! If you waste our valuable time, can you handle the responsibility?"
The saleswoman rushed off to arrange the delivery, while Elbert turned back to Tyler with a sneer.
"You bastard, the items will be here soon. Let's see what you're going to pay with then!"
Clarissa felt a pang of guilt, perhaps due to lingering feelings or the earlier misunderstanding. She tried to intervene.
"Tyler, just leave. Lindsey's Jewelers' signature collection is worth at least tens of millions. It's really not something you can afford."
"No need. I think I can manage,"
Tyler coldly refused, showing no gratitude for her "concern."
"Ha! Still trying to act tough? I can't wait to expose your little charade," Elbert scoffed.
Ten minutes later, an armored truck pulled up outside the store.
Two fully armed security guards flanked a man carrying a briefcase as they entered the store.
The sight of such high-level security made the onlookers gasp in awe.
Spotting the man with the case, Elbert hurried over with a plastered smile.
"Mr. Jenning, I can't believe you personally came to deliver a set of gold jewelry."
Stanley Jenning, a relative of the Jenning family and one of the regional managers of Lindsey's Jewelers, gave Elbert a cold look.
He asked indifferently, "Who are you? Do I know you?"
"Uh ... " Elbert's face turned beet red in embarrassment. "I'm Elbert Barton. Paul Barton is my father. We worked with your company last year."
"Oh, don't know you,"
Stanley responded frostily, walking right past Elbert to Tyler.
"Mr. Glisson, the signature collection you requested has arrived."
Snap!
The briefcase clicked open.
Suddenly, three dazzling beams of golden light shot into the air, forcing everyone to close their eyes for a moment.
When the light subsided, the contents of the briefcase left the crowd gasping in amazement.
Assuming the role of a guide, Stanley began explaining the origins of the treasures to everyone.
"According to experts in antiquities, this set of gold jewelry is an authentic collection from the Valorian Kingdom.
"This gold bracelet is a multi-ring structure engraved with delicate patterns. It can expand and contract to fit different wrist sizes.
"The gold bangles are a pair of intertwined branch-and-treasure pattern pieces, etched with designs of phoenixes surrounded by birds. The detail is exquisite, capturing lifelike beauty.
"The most complex piece is this golden heart-shaped pendant, the Golden Dawn Pendant.
"The craftsman used techniques such as hammering, engraving, and hollowing to carve two mythical birds and intricate floral patterns. It is breathtakingly beautiful."
Although many people didn't understand the technical terms, as soon as they heard "Valorian Kingdom artifact," they were left utterly speechless.
These were antiques that had survived for over a thousand years. The historical and financial value was overwhelming, electrifying everyone's nerves.
"How much is this collection worth?" someone asked.
Stanley's face gleamed with pride.
"Each of these pieces is worth millions on its own.
"But this entire set once belonged to Princess Yolanda, the most beautiful woman of the Valorian Kingdom. It's one of a kind in the world.
"The listed price is 15 million dollars!"
Boom!
The moment the price was revealed, the entire jewelry store erupted with shock.
Fifteen million dollars!
A single set of jewelry, worth an astronomical 15 million dollars!
Everyone wondered.
What kind of wedding or bride, could possibly be worthy of such extravagant jewels?
Then, that grating voice pierced the air once more.
"Tyler, didn't you say earlier that you were going to buy this set?
"I remember you left your marriage with nothing. I can't wait to see how you're going to pretend now."
After humiliating Tyler, Elbert turned to Clarissa with a triumphant smirk.
"As soon as this loser Tyler fails to pay, I'll step in and buy it immediately."
Clarissa wanted to refuse, but when she saw the stubborn look on Tyler's face, anger welled up inside her.
I've given you so many chances to back down, why don't you understand?
Why do you insist on embarrassing yourself like this?
She coldly advised Tyler, "If you admit defeat now, you can leave with some dignity.
"Even if you keep pretending, you won't win me back."
Tyler was even more baffled. How did she come up with this nonsense?
To shatter her delusion, he pulled out a bank card and handed it to Stanley.
"15 million dollars? Fine, charge the card."
Boom!
The entire crowd froze in utter shock.
Fifteen million dollars! And he's casually saying to charge it?
Clarissa, who knew him better than anyone, stood dumbfounded for a moment before she screamed.
"Impossible!
"There's no way you have 15 million dollars."
In her eyes, Tyler had always been a worthless mess, someone incapable of ever having that much money.
Tyler waved the bank card in front of her, the surface worn down, with the card number barely visible.
"This is the card I gave you when we got married, but you threw it away like trash. Now I'll show you what you really threw away three years ago."
