Emma walked away and entered the cabin, leaning her back against the door and close her eyes. For a few moments, she wished she had never left Pennsylvania; living away from society hurt so much less than all the things she had discovered since arriving there. "It hurts because he's your mate, and no matter what you do, and no matter how hard you try to deny it, you can't do anything to erase the feeling that haunts you when you're not by his side," her great-great-grandmother said in her mind, interrupting her moment of self-flagellation.
