Chapter 2 The Legacy Of The Divine Healer
In a village nestled within the city, there was a rented house.
Upon opening the door, Ye Fu turned to Chu Meiting with an apologetic smile, "I'm sorry, the house is a bit messy. I don't usually have time to tidy up."
"It's alright," Chu Meiting replied.
Her delicate and gentle face displayed an understanding smile.
The one-bedroom house was a bit cramped, but despite the old furniture, it was very clean, indicating regular upkeep.
"Meiting, please have a seat. I'll make some tea for you," Ye Fu said as he reached for the kettle to boil water.
Chu Meiting quickly grabbed the kettle, "Uncle Lin, your health isn't great. You should rest. I'll boil the water."
With that, she carried the kettle into the kitchen without hesitation.
Ye Fu watched her go and couldn't help but feel content, "Ah, Miss Chu has such a pleasant demeanor, gentle and virtuous."
He couldn't help but think of Zhao Xueyue, who had a strong will and had only visited the house once during her few years of relationship with Ye Fei.
She stayed for less than three minutes, left hastily after a phone call.
Ye Fu was not oblivious; he could see Zhao Xueyue's blatant disdain.
As the water boiled, Chu Meiting brewed a steaming cup of tea and handed it to Ye Fu.
Ye Fu's expression momentarily turned pensive. Today was supposed to be his wedding day, bowing to the heavens and the earth, serving tea to his parents...
But everything had changed.
Father Ye forced himself to be alert and accepted the hot tea, "Xiaoting, thank you for bringing us back. I'll cook some dishes later. Let's eat before you leave."
"Uncle Lin, you're not feeling well. Please rest more," Chu Meiting gently smiled. "Let me cook today."
Father Ye felt embarrassed to let the guests work, so he glanced at Ye Fei, "Why are you still standing there? Go help Meiting."
The two entered the kitchen together. Ye Fei washed the vegetables while Chu Meiting skillfully prepared them.
Father Ye watched the two busy figures with a complex expression, murmuring to himself, "Living a simple life like this is more comfortable than anything else."
Only through comparison could one see the differences.
Compared to Zhao Xueyue's arrogance, Chu Meiting was like a warm and gentle spring rain, quietly seeping into the heart.
Her qualities and manners clearly did not stem from a humble background.
Was Ye Fei truly deserving of her?
In the kitchen, Chu Meiting handed the vegetables to Ye Fei and hesitated, "Ye Fei, are you sure you won't reconsider? After so many years, Xueyue's feelings can't be ignored. Let's finish eating and go back together to have a good talk."
"There's nothing to talk about," Ye Fei replied calmly, a hint of indifference in his tone.
"I can tolerate her looking down on me, but I won't allow her to disrespect my father."
Seeing his father's frail form, Ye Fei's feelings for Zhao Xueyue had completely vanished.
His sincere efforts were met with nothing but indifference and disdain.
Perhaps Zhao Xueyue had never truly cared for him.
This marriage was merely a convenient facade to control and inherit the family's shares.
What Zhao Xueyue truly desired was a broken man devoid of self-respect.
Chu Meiting observed the indifference in Ye Fei's eyes and inwardly sighed.
He and Zhao Xueyue were now completely incompatible!
As they worked together, a table full of delicious dishes was quickly prepared.
Today, Ye's father had a particularly hearty appetite, eating two bowls in a row and praising Chu Meiting's culinary skills.
After dinner, Chu Meiting conversed with Ye's father until the sun began to set.
"Uncle Lin, take care of yourself. I'll come to see you again in a few days," Chu Meiting bid farewell politely.
"Of course, feel free to visit whenever you have the time," Ye's father said with a smile, his eyes growing more approving as he watched her, almost as if she were already part of the family.
Chu Meiting blushed slightly, feeling a bit overwhelmed. She nodded at Ye Fei and quickly made her exit.
With a loud bang, the door closed, leaving only the father and son in the room.
"Kneel!" Ye's father's smile vanished instantly, his brow furrowing.
Ye Fei knelt down with a determined expression, resolved not to marry Zhao Xueyue no matter what his father said.
Ye's father looked out the window with a distant gaze, speaking softly, "Xiaofei, do you remember the promise you made when we left Yanjing all those years ago?"
Ye Fei's expression froze, a coldness flickering in his eyes as he clenched his fists tightly, remaining silent.
Father Ye let out a long sigh, his figure seeming to shrink under the weight of a heavy burden.
"Our Ye family has been passing down our medical expertise for generations, serving the world with our skills. I know my own health better than anyone else, and my time is running out."
"Even if you marry Zhao Xueyue and pay two hundred thousand for my treatment, it won't save me."
"I don't have much time left, and you are still young. It's not worth sacrificing your future for a little money."
Ye Fei's head hung low, his eyes reflecting a steely resolve.
He tightened his fists and suddenly looked up, "Dad! You're not actually sick, it's Uncle who poisoned you!"
Crash!
The teacup in Father Ye's hand fell to the ground, shattering into pieces.
His eyes showed shock and disbelief, "How... how did you find out?"
The haunting memory from the past resurfaced before his eyes.
Eight years ago, in the Ye family's ancestral hall in the capital, he had sworn to never use the family's medical skills again and willingly ingested a slow-acting poison.
All for the sake of his son's life!
At that time, the young Ye Fei had been unaware of this sacrifice.
Ye Fei removed a jade pendant from around his neck and handed it to his father.
"Dad, do you remember the jade pendant Mom gave me?"
Father Ye's face contorted in pain. It was the jade pendant his late wife had given their son, a gift he could never forget.
Ye Fei gripped the jade pendant, and faint blue light emanated from it, "Dad, three months ago, I accidentally cut my hand and got blood on the jade pendant. To my surprise, it contained the secrets of our family's medical skills."
Ye's father was stunned.
His wife had treasured the jade pendant, but he had never imagined its true significance.
He reached out to touch it, sensing a mysterious power, but he couldn't quite grasp it.
It seemed the jade pendant had chosen its master, and only Ye Fei could harness its power.
Tears welled up in Father Ye's eyes as he thought of his late wife, rendering him speechless.
Ye Fei held his father's hand, his eyes filled with determination.
"Dad, with the medical knowledge in this jade pendant, there is no illness I cannot cure. I promise to take you back to the Ye family within a year and confront those who wronged us."
"We will reclaim everything we lost, step by step!"
Ye Fei harbored deep-seated hatred for those cruel relatives who had driven them out.
The day would come when they would pay for their actions, especially for forcing his father to take poison.
