Chapter 64 The Line We Draw
The Ghostwood Forest had begun to settle again. The fires were out, the wounded rested in makeshift shelters, and a cautious silence stretched across the camp. But in Kaela’s chest, silence had no place. Her thoughts were too loud and they always circled back to the same two names: Dane and ysra.
She watched from the shadows of a tent, her arm bound tight from the battle, her breath caught somewhere between her throat and pride. Across the clearing, Dane sat beside Ysra again. She handed him a bowl of roasted root vegetables, speaking softly, her face lit with that easy gratitude that made Kaela’s stomach turn. Dane accepted it with a small nod and a smile that Kaela hadn’t seen directed at her in days.
