Chapter 6 Not Fair
I was silent for a while before shaking my head. “Nothing,” I said.
Tony pursed his lips. “It wasn't nothing. Tell me,” he insisted.
Scared that he would change his mind and decide to kill me, I fidgeted. “Um, I was tired and scared. I just said the first thing that came to mind,” I said.
Luckily, Maya walked in. “I'll take you to your post,” she said. Today, she was this saint. She had a smile on her face, making her look innocent and cute.
I felt a little confused. Had I been dreaming on my first day here? Why was everyone so nice today?
“Mm,” Tony grunted and went back to his files. I pursed my lips and followed Maya out.
…
For the first few weeks, I worked in the store. I cleaned the dishes, cleaned the floor, cut and chopped the vegetables, but never complained. And apart from Maya who was so cold to me when we were alone, no one else bothered me much.
But today, when I was peeling the potatoes, I began shaking.
I froze in place because I seemed to understand what was happening to me. It wasn't new. It was just that I thought it was gone. Then, just like I thought, every inch of my body began aching. I dropped the knife and sat on the floor, trying so hard not to make a sound.
But just like in the past, I was in so much pain. I couldn't keep a tear from falling.
“Are you okay?”
Suddenly, someone spoke from behind the shelf. I sat up in fear and nodded my head. “Yeah, I'm fine.”
A young girl, slightly younger than me walked towards me. “You seem to be in pain,” she said. I hadn't seen the girl before. She looked somewhat classy. Who was she?
“I'll be fine after a while,” I whispered and grit my teeth.
The girl seemed confused for a second. “You shouldn't be working if you are unwell. Come on, I'll take you to the dispensary,” she said and tried helping me up.
But I shook my head. “No, I can't,” I said. I couldn't leave my post.”
“What's wrong? Is someone harassing you? You…”
“Can you do me a favour?” I spoke up, looking at the girl with my red eyes. “Can you get me some painkillers?”
The girl was silent for a while before nodding her head. “Sure,” she said and walked out.
But just a few minutes after she left, Maya walked in. “Hey! What are you doing on the floor?” She asked coldly.
I was in so much pain that I didn't even move. And this angered Maya. “You know you should be thanking me for sparing your life? So, get up and get the work done!” She shouted.
Just then, she noticed someone else at the door. She was surprised. “Annie?” She called, “What are you doing here?”
Annie looked at her quietly. “Is that how you treat others?” She asked.
Maya licked her lips. “She's just a servant who has to earn her place here,” she said, smiling. “Hey, I'll take you to your brother.”
Annie walked past her. She seemed a bit annoyed. She poured water into a glass and handed it to me with some painkillers. She then looked up at Maya and scoffed before walking away.
Maya looked at me and back at the Annie. She quickly followed after Annie.
…
Annie stomped into Tony's suit; her face puffed up. “It's not fair, you know,” she said.
Tony rubbed his brows. “What are you doing here, Little Sister? I told you not to come here,” he said, feeling frustrated.
Annie looked at him stubbornly, “Why is she being treated like that?”
Tony furrowed his brows, “Who are we talking about this time?”
“The girl in the store! She is in pain! No one seems to care. All you people do is shout at her because you think you are better…”
Tony looked at Maya who had just walked in. “Who is she talking about?”
Maya sighed, “The new girl. Um, it was a misunderstanding…”
“What?” Tony stood up, his eyes fixed on Annie. “Were you with her? I want you to stay away from her. Do you understand?”
Annie felt so sad and confused. “And why is that?”
“She cannot be trusted… yet! Does she know who you are? Annie, I want you to go back home, now!”
“No! “Annie said stubbornly. “She is not a bad person. I trust her. And… she needs to see a doctor.”
Tony sighed, “Is she okay?” Annie felt so mad. “Were you even listening? I said she is in so much pain. I'm not going anywhere until she sees a doctor,” she said, walking away.
“Annie! Where are you going?” Tony asked with a sigh.
“To check up on her since none of you care,” she said and walked towards the store. Tony could only sigh and walk after her. And when he saw the Kelly lying on the floor, her face covered in tears and her eyes so red, he didn't say a word.
He lifted her up, in front of everyone and rushed towards the dispensary. “Someone tells doctor Stone to prepare some painkillers,” he said.
Everyone, especially Maya, was so shocked. How could Tony, who never even shook anyone's hand, carry that girl who was supposed to be the traitor?
Annie's mood suddenly improved. She grabbed her phone and snapped a quick photo. “Wow! This is going to shake mountains!” She smiled.
Tony lay Kelly on the bed and began looking through the medicine shelf. “Advil! “He shouted the moment Dr. Stone rushed in. “Where is it?”
Even though Dr. Stone was confused, he grabbed a bottle of Advil and handed it to Tony. But when je saw that Tony was ready to feed it to Kelly, he stopped him. “No! You don't know what she's suffering from…”
“I know,” Tony said bluntly and forced a pill into Kelly's mouth. He then helped her drink some water.
Everyone was shocked again. “How do you know? It could be dangerous…”
“Master,” Drake said, making everyone turn to look at him. “Master had osteoarthritis. He took Advil…”
