Chapter 4 Fake Or Real Daughter

Several black SUVs were packed on the street. Luckily, it was in the middle of the night and there were few people and activities. “Don, I told you. Someone is playing prank on you. Maya is Master's daughter…” Drake was still speaking when Tony raised his hand to stop him from speaking. He then peeked behind the dustbin. He exhaled quietly seeing the girl hugging herself tightly and in fear. She was young and thin. From one glance, one could tell that she hadn’t eaten well for a while. But still, she had thus beautiful face that any man would be drawn into. Her skin was white, and her large beautiful eyes spoke a lot about her. Drake rubbed his hair in confusion. “Um… it can't be…” “What's the secret phrase?” Tony cut Drake short once again and looked at the girl. … I was stunned for a second when I saw the man. He was cold, and scarier than Cliff. But he was very handsome. His chiseled jaw made him look like he had been sculpted personally by the maker. Had it not been for my situation at the time, one look at him and I would have gone weak in the knees. I wiped away my tears and looked back at him. “Pepper and milk make the best combination,” I said in a hushed voice. I wasn't sure if that was the secret phrase. No one had said anything about a secret phrase. I just said the first thing that my dad would joke about frequently. Drake, as I learnt his name was, immediately chocked on his saliva, while Tony's eyes creased a little. “She's crazy,” Drake said and burst out laughing. “Are you sure she called you?” “Help her to the car,” Tony replied coldly and walked away. Drake was shocked. “What? Boss, we can't! What if she is…” He stopped talking when he saw my situation. “Forget it,” he said and helped me up. “He pities people a lot. We'll take you in, but you'll have to leave soon.” … “How is she?” Tony asked, his expression not changing even once. Drake shrugged. “She hasn't slept at all. She is just there, staring out of the window,” he said. Tony sipped at his coffee as he watched the girl practicing ballet at a distance. She was beautiful and slender. Her long black hair danced around, following her movements. She looked at the two people watching from the distance and smiled. Of course, everyone knew that she was sweet. She was kind and most people loved her. After all, she was Master's daughter. Master was their hero. Two years ago, Tony received her call. She said she was Scott's daughter and that Scott was dead. Tony had immediately picked her up. She was young, beautiful, and charming. Apart from her sadness at that time, everything else about her was very bright. Tony cared deeply about her. He made sure she got everything she wanted. He kept her safe. After all, she was the daughter of the man that he respected so much. Her father was his mentor, his pillar, his hope and he was the only person he looked up to as he grew up. “Um… she dances so well,” Drake said awkwardly. “Master would be so happy-” “Not that,” Tony interrupted. “What then?” Drake asked in confusion. Tony looked at Drake with a serious expression. “Who is the real daughter?” Drake widened his eyes in shock. “Boss? What do you mean? Maya is here! That girl could just be a mole planted by the enemy,” he paused and rubbed his cheek with sadness. “I mean, she should have called you earlier if she was master's daughter.” Tony was silent for a while before nodding his head. “Mmmh, I'll go in and have a word with her. I want to know who she is.” … I stood by the window. I was tired and exhausted, but everything else felt useless. I just stared outside, wishing that I could see them, finally coming for me. Yet, it was just another wishful thought that I had had in the last two years. Suddenly, the door creaked open, and Tony walked in holding a glass of warm milk. I looked up at him tensely. Tony halted for a second when he saw my face. I was pale, and there were black circles under my eyes. However, he didn't comment. He put the glass of milk on the bedside table and sat on the couch. “Sit down,” he said. I pursed my lips and obediently took a seat. I took in a deep breath and looked at the man again. I was a bit surprised that he was that young. I had been expecting a man my dad's age. “Talk,” Tony said coldly. And I was a bit confused. I blinked my eyes, looking misplaced. “What?” I asked. “How did you get that number?” Tony spoke up again. He didn't seem so fond of me, maybe because I appeared so weak at the time. I felt more lost. “My dad gave it to me,” I said. Why was he questioning me? Hadn't they talked? Tony felt a little irritated. “When I ask you a question, you answer fully. Like, the name of your dad, the date, time…” “My dad's name was Scott Carter,” I suddenly spoke up, shocking Tony. “During Christmas two years ago, three minutes before eleven o'clock, he went out to save my brother from a fire in his apartment near Delight College. He left me this note and told me to call the number if things went wrong.” Tony stared at my teary eyes for some seconds before shaking his head. “That was two years ago? Why did you call just now?” I swallowed hard. I looked away and wiped a tear off my face. “Because things hadn't gone wrong then,” I said. Tony's face turned darker. “Can you prove that you are actually his daughter?” he asked. I was shocked once again. “What do you mean? I'm his daughter…” “Anyone who knew him would say the same,” Tony cut me short. “So, if you don't prove it, you are out!” “Um…” I stammered. He was too careful. I finally understood why my dad trusted him. “Tony, is she the girl pretending to be me?” Another girl walked in, tears falling from her eyes. I turned around to look at the girl. “What do you mean?” I asked. I was more than shocked. Maya pointed a finger at me. “I have never healed from losing my dad and brother. How dare you claim to be his daughter?” I was silent for a while before I burst out laughing. It was a long laughter, yet sad and lonely. Everyone looked at me in confusion. “You…” I stood up and took a step towards Maya. “So, you are me? Or am I you?” I asked, big tears were falling from my eyes. “Tony? See, she is obviously the fake daughter. What does she want here? Maybe she came to kill me. Those people sent her! I'm scared…” Tony looked at both of us and sighed. He held Maya's hand, “Relax, I'm going to find out the truth. And if she's a fake, I'll kill her myself for what they did to Master. “ My expression turned darker. “You know what? Scott must be very happy that you are looking after his daughter. Just throw me out already. Is it to the dogs? Oh no! It must be to the wolves!” Drake who was standing at the door widened his eyes. It seemed like no one had ever talked to Tony like that, not even Maya whom he had spoiled since he met her. “Take her back where we found her,” Tony said angrily. But Maya stopped him. “No! We must kill her,” she said.
