Needing to get away from Lachlan, I rushed through the pack. Walking quicker than I knew was possible, fearing he may try to catch me as he had done on the previous attempts to get away. Only this time there were no footsteps behind me. He had allowed me to get away. He had gained all he had wanted. He had got his own way. That was what he needed from me.
