Chapter 6 Lachlan

I had done the good guy role. Going against every part of me that hated Seren. But, the part of me that knew what it was like to lose my father. The part that clung to that pain day in and day out was what made me step up and offer to help her find her bracelet. Or at least try. That had been torture being that close to her. I hate her. I truly do. But my body want her. The matebond wants her. This is nothing but a mess. Her scent was overwhelming. Enticing. Alluring. As it teased at my senses. Like it wanted me to reach for her and sink my teeth into her neck. Mark her and make her mine. Her scent had filled every part of that forest as we searched for that damn bracelet. As I did the decent thing. Torturing myself while being the good guy. Yet, we never found the damn thing, and she rushed away with tears in her eyes, and I had to ask our patrols to look out for it. Another promise to the bane of my life... Now I needed to go and party. Reward myself for being the good guy. I think I deserved that. Besides, today was my day, and I intended to enjoy it. Every damn second of it! I was sure there would be plenty of she-wolves more than happy to spend some time with their pack’s upcoming Beta, I told myself as I adjusted my hair in the mirror, readying myself for the party. I knew it would be a good night. The pack parties always were. ‘You done preening yourself?’ Tyr grumbled angrily. My newly arrived wolf was still not in the best of moods with me for the fact he realized that I was not quite as excited as him at the idea of us meeting our fated mate on the very day I came of age. ‘Anyone would think it was a beauty contest not a birthday party.’ ‘Wow. You got out of the wrong side of bed this morning.’ I chuckled, fastening up my shirt, a smile playing upon my lips. I was not about to allow this grumpy ass wolf I had been blessed with to spoil my day. He was going to have to adjust to my way of thinking if he was my wolf, and that was the way it was going to have to be, right? ‘Listen beauty queen, meeting your fated mate so young is a blessing. One so many would love to be given. Yet you are dismissing it like it is a curse.’ He snarled, and there was no hiding his fury. My wolf certainly had a temper... But, I also had a temper, and right now this wolf of mine was feeding my temper. ‘Do not tell me to listen, wolf boy.’ I snapped angrily, my wolf already having won in causing my happiness to wane. ‘Seren is exactly that. A fucking curse. She is not worthy of being my fated mate and never will be. So, it is time you get over it.’ Tyr growled heavily, and my fists tightened angrily, one instinctively punching toward the wall, making a shattering noise upon impact as pain reverberated through my fist and upon my arm. ‘And fucking quit it with all that shit, or you will be blocked.’ The impact of my fist into the bedroom wall was enough to leave a slight hole. My knuckles and my hand in general were throbbing from the impact. I shook it off in a bid to stop the pain, knowing I now had my wolf to help. ‘Fuck off. You are on your own with that. Why would I help? You don't desrve my help. We are meant to be as one, yet the one meant for us you push away?’ Tyr snapped, instantly causing me to block him out. I was not about to listen to this shit. He had not been around for the pain I had suffered because of Seren. I would not tolerate this from him. My shoulders sagged, feeling somewhat deflated. Meeting my wolf was not going quite the way I had expected. I heard a banging on the front door, so I rushed from my room, and down the stairs to open the door to be met with a grinning Alpha. Marcus, one of my closest friends since childhood was there to greet me. “Alright birthday boy.” He offered out a bottle of some form of spirits. I did not have a clue what it was, but it was bright blue in colour. “Thought we could do some birthday shots.” He grinned. I laughed. This did not surprise me of my friend. We had got into some trouble over the years with alcohol. The three of us, Marcus, Cole and I. So many memories of drunken nights. Laughter... sickness... fun, often in secret before we were considered old enough... All part of growing up, right? But, I shook my head at my friend. “I might like to remember the day I came of age.” I told him. “Why?” Marcus asked with another smile. “You and Cole made sure I didn’t.” I laughed at the memory. As werewolves we had a higher tolerance to alcohol. or we did once we had our wolves. So you'd think it would have been Cole and I passing out that night with us both not having our wolves then, but we replaced some of our drinks with soda, and gave Marcus more alochol. Not to mention he had so many drinks that night, as everyone was bringing him drinks to celebrate! He had passed out on the dance floor a few hours into his party. Cole and I sitting next to him laughing so hard we were crying. I think I had photographs somewhere... Such good times... But, I did not need the same for my special day! “One. Then we will go.” I told him, and he shrugged, moving toward the kitchen to find us some glasses. “So, what is this wolf of yours like?” he asked, sounding genuinely curious. I guess I could understand that, I think I had been the same when he had met his. “An ass.” I admitted honestly, causing Marcus to laugh. The look upon his face told me he thought I was joking. The Alpha wolf Marcus had been blessed with, Ash, was a great wolf. Everything you expect of an Alpha wolf, but from everything Marcus said, and his mate too, he was so supportive. A real character too, with a crazy sense of humor. I, in truth had hoped my Beta wolf may have been something similar. Instead, I had been blessed with a grumpy fucker, seriously lacking a sense of humor. Marcus poured two large shots, and placed them on the breakfast bar, turning to me with a grin, which quickly turned to a frown when he saw my expression. “You are being serious, aren’t you?” he questioned, his eyes watching me with concern etched across his face now; and I nodded. “You don’t get on?” he looked confused. I don't know how unusual that was for a guy when meeting his wolf... The moon goddess was meant to take as much care in choosing your wolf as she did your mate. Seemed mine had to have been an after thought. Because me and my wolf were not a good match. Not in the slightest. I shrugged. “He is not the friendliest. I hoped he would be like Ash.” I suggested. Marcus sighed heavily, as if deep in thought. “Ash is pretty unique." he began, and I guessed he was right in that, but it still felt like an excuse. Excusing Tyr for being a shitty wolf... "Maybe it is just because you need to adjust to one another.” Marcus suggested, and I nodded, but knowing deep down, it was much more than that. Yet I could not tell my friend of the longest time the truth. Me and my wolf were always going to struggle getting along when we disagreed on one big thing... Our pack followed werewolf tradition closely. And, rejection of mates was not something they agreed with. In fact it was simply not allowed. Seren may be my fated mate, but, while I had no intention of her ever being mine, I could never rejet her because my pack would never allow it.
