Chapter 5
Abigail looked at him. His facial features seemed to be meticulously sculpted by the hands of some supernatural being because they were so perfect.
More importantly, she seemed to have seen him before.
"Mr. Lucero, here's the thing. When Sir Lucero was critically ill, I boldly promised this lady a large amount of remuneration as long as she could save his life," Kolten hurriedly asked for a remuneration for Abigail.
Ronan looked at her, a ripple of emotion in his eyes. Then, he glanced at Ryker.
Ryker immediately took out a blank check, handed it over, and said, "Thank you for your help, Doctor! This is the reward from Mr. Lucero. You can fill in whatever amount you want."
Abigail raised her bright eyes in surprise, wondering who the man was. She hadn't expected him to be so generous.
The people around them all looked at her in shock and envy.
After getting the blank check, she would earn more than just a large amount of money. The check was a token of Ronan's affirmation. So, she would have more opportunities in the future. The crowd was all jealous of her luck.
"Thank you," Abigail said with a faint smile on her crimson lips and put the check in the pocket of her white coat. She had not hesitated at all, acting straightforward.
"Sir Lucero can be off the ventilator tomorrow."
As soon as Abigail finished speaking, Georgia sneered in the corner, which caught Abigail's attention.
Abigail raised an eyebrow, her tone casual as she stared at Georgia, "Time to fulfill your promise, Ms. Riggs."
Georgia, caught up in her envy and jealousy, had completely forgotten about their bet!
She thought, 'Ronan's right here, I can't let her embarrass me no matter what! Absolutely not!'
She decided to brazen it out, shrugging her shoulders. "What promise? I don't remember saying that."
"Ms. Riggs, how could you do this..." the young nurse beside them couldn't help but criticize her. "You said that if this young lady could save Sir Lucero, you would do whatever she says and even give up your position as deputy director..."
"Did I?" Georgia denied it without hesitation. "Any evidence?"
She was so shameless that a doctor couldn't hold back her rage. "You did say that, and everyone present heard it. Even if you don't want to quit your job, at least apologize to her."
After all, Georgia had spoken so rudely to the young girl earlier...
"Why should I?" Georgia carried on with her shamelessness, wearing a defiant expression.
Everyone present was left speechless by her cheekiness.
Just when everyone was at a loss on how to deal with her...
Abigail made a lightning-fast move, kicking Georgia's knee.
No one could see clearly how she made the shot. They only heard the sound of Georgia's knee colliding with the ground. It must have hurt quite a lot.
"You, you bitch..." Georgia's lips trembled in pain, and she couldn't even stand up.
"As a doctor, it is your bounden duty to save the dying and heal the wounded." Abigail's eyes shone coldly, her voice carrying a trace of chill as she hissed, "Your medical skills are meant for saving lives, not for taking them!"
"You, you..." Georgia trembled with anger, "Don't try to badmouth me in front of Mr. Lucero. I didn't do anything!"
"Everyone knows whether you have done it and what you intended to do!"
At this moment, Antony Blair, the head of the hospital, rushed over after hearing the news. "Mr. Lucero, is Sir Lucero okay? I'm sorry, I just came back from an academic exchange conference... Oh, what's going on here? Georgia, why are you kneeling on the ground?"
When Georgia saw Antony, her tears welled up in her eyes, but she couldn't stand up because of the pain.
Antony always had high hopes for her. He even praised her in front of many doctors to set her as an example for others.
Just as she was about to complain, she heard Antony's surprised voice.
"Abby, what are you doing here? And why are you in your sterile gown? Y-you're not the high school student who operated on Sir Lucero, are you? I've heard all about it on my way here... So, does that mean Sir Lucero is okay now?" Antony exclaimed, leaving everyone in shock.
Not only did Antony know Abigail, but from his words, he seemed to admire her medical skills.
Seeing that no one answered his question, Antony became even more puzzled. "Well, what's going on here? Abby, tell me."
"Mr. Blair." Abigail greeted him when she saw him. "Everything's fine. I just don't want to see her in this industry in the future."
Antony glanced at Georgia, then back at Abigail. "How did she offend you?"
"It's nothing personal." Abigail's unintentional aura revealed her strength. "It's just that I've never heard of a heart failure patient with endocarditis and paravalvular leak being given cardiac sedative and booster."
"That's only gonna make things worse! The patient's gonna die in half an hour!" Antony turned to Georgia in disbelief.
Abigail said indifferently, "Well, it seems that your hospital has a lax admission standard."
"Georgia, why didn't you perform surgery on the patient?" Antony immediately asked.
"Mr. Blair, Sir Lucero was in critical condition at the time, and there was nothing we could do..."
"Even though there was nothing you could do, you shouldn't have administered sedative and booster! You knew that if they had been injected, no one could have saved him! You're a doctor, but you gave up on the patient while there was still hope to save him! How could you do that?"
Before she could speak, Antony said, disappointed, "You can go now. Shepard Hospital won't keep you anymore. You won't be allowed to enter this industry in the future."
Someone who valued her future more than the patient's life didn't deserve to be a doctor!
Antony was the chairman of the National Medical Association. He had just ended Georgia's career as a doctor.
"Mr. Blair, please give me another chance, Mr. Blair..."
Georgia was reluctant to leave this place...
The salary here was high, and everyone treated her well. Her future was bright...
'It was all that bitch's fault!' thought Georgia.
"Take her away!" After Antony finished speaking, he turned to Ronan and apologized, "I'm sorry for what happened under my watch. I am deeply sorry."
Ronan's eyes fell on Abigail, and his voice was clear as he spoke, "Hey, I seem to have met you before. "
