Chapter 3
Hearing this, several doctors who were in a state of desperation looked over.
"What do you know?" The male chief doctor didn't take Abigail seriously. "Sir Lucero's condition is very complicated. "
Now they had no choice but to wait for his family to arrive.
Abigail raised her eyebrows in doubt and asked lightly, "Rheumatic heart disease. Is it serious?"
"You can tell that just by a glimpse?" The doctor was surprised.
"Why bother arguing with that chick? When will Mr. Lucero arrive?" said Professor Kolten Hood, in his fifties, the best cardiologist in the hospital.
"In twenty minutes at least."
Kolten thought about it. Irving Lucero couldn't afford to wait.
"Professor Hood, let's wait for Mr. Ronan Lucero." Georgia Riggs, a young deputy chief doctor tentatively said, "An unauthorized surgery would..."
If something went wrong, Ronan would never let them get away.
Seeing that Kolten didn't speak, Georgia simply acted as the "bad guy" and ordered the nurse at the side, "Go get the sedative and booster."
Abigail at the door said lazily again, "If you do that, he'll die right away."
"Who are you? Go away. " Georgia disliked Abigail.
"Quack." Abigail didn't feel like wasting time and was about to leave.
Unexpectedly, Georgia snapped, "Wait! Who were you talking to?"
"Who else could it be?" Abigail raised her eyes slightly, obviously not taking Georgia seriously. "Considering his condition, the only way to save him is through surgery."
"Surgery? Easy for you to say." Georgia scoffed. "Sir Lucero has undergone five heart operations. His heart is incredibly fragile now. You can't find any doctor in the whole country, who has the guts to put him through a sixth one!"
Abigail raised her brow and said flatly, "That's because you're not good enough."
"You can do it?" Georgia sneered, "If you can save him, I will do anything you say!"
Abigail smirked. "OK. Let me take over it then."
"Stop bragging!" Georgia didn't take her words seriously.
"Why don't you let her try? Maybe she has a solution." another doctor whispered. "If something goes wrong, she can take all the blame..."
"She doesn't even work here!" Georgia turned back and lowered her voice, hissing, "Do you have any idea who Mr. Lucero is? If something goes wrong, all of us won't get away! Do you think finding a scapegoat to take the blame is enough?"
She then looked back at Abigail with contempt in her eyes and went on, "If she were really as good as she claims to be, she would have become famous a long time ago."
"I'll do a heart valve replacement operation for him. But I want Randy to be my assistant."
Randy was a recognized genius in the hospital.
Hearing this, Georgia snorted. "Who do you think you are? Do you even know who Randy is?"
Soon, a familiar voice rang through the hallway. "It seems that I'm wanted here?"
Everyone looked over and was shocked to see Randy.
"Dr. Conrad, you came just in time."
Georgia seized the opportunity to humiliate Abigail. "Can you believe it? This braggart wants you to be her assistant."
Randy slightly frowned at Georgia, dissatisfied with her rudeness.
Then he glanced at Abigail, who was casually standing aside as if all the attacks couldn't hurt her at all.
Randy reluctantly accepted the hot potato for the sake of Abigail and blankly said, "Then she'll have me as her assistant."
"Dr. Conrad, why are you risking your neck with her?"
Georgia was stunned. She never expected Randy to agree. Then, she hurriedly said, "The success rate is less than 10%. You know who Sir Lucero is, right? If anything goes wrong, there will be severe consequences!"
Randy showed a displeased look and coldly said, "Even if anything goes wrong, you guys won't have to take the blame."
"Dr. Conrad!"
"I'll take the full responsibility."
All the other doctors were stunned, wondering why he decided to do such a ridiculous thing with Abigail.
Randy didn't want to waste any more time on them, so he glanced at Abigail and said, "Come with me."
He intended to take her to the operating room.
While passing by Georgia, Abigail slightly smiled. "Hope you don't go back on your word."
Flying into a rage, Georgia shouted, "Of course I won't. You know what? If you make it, I can even yield the position of deputy director to you!"
Randy casually asked Abigail, "How did you get into a fight with her?"
"Because she is much too arrogant and ignorant."
Abigail wanted to teach her a lesson and let her know there was always someone who was more capable than her.
After two nurses wheeled Irving into the operating room, the doctors in the ward looked at each other in dismay.
"They're insane!"
"How could Sir Lucero undergo an operation in such a condition? Dr. Conrad is too young! He doesn't know the consequences of failure! It's way more severe than a ruined reputation and career!"
With Ronan's power, they could all end up in jail if anything went wrong with Irving.
"Professor Hood, are we seriously gonna let them do it?! They're gonna kill Sir Lucero!"
"Mr. Easton, take it easy. Randy already said he would take full responsibility if anything went wrong!"
"You're so naive. Sir Lucero is Mr. Lucero's grandfather! If he dies, Mr. Lucero will definitely blame all of us for not stopping Dr. Conrad!"
Georgia said through gritted teeth, "If that does happen, we'll throw him under the bus. Just tell Mr. Lucero that Dr. Conrad insists on doing it despite our disapproval!"
After remaining silent for a long time, Kolten finally said, "I'm going to observe the operation. Let's see how capable she is."
Georgia looked at the nurse and ordered, "Ask them to turn on all the surveillance cameras in the operating room. We need the evidence. And I'm looking forward to seeing her make a fool of herself!"
Georgia folded her arms over her chest and ironically looked at Abigail through the window.
"Correct his posture."
"Anes."
"Skin disinfection."
"Scalpel."
The doctors in the observation room were surprised to see how calm and professional Abigail was when she gave orders to the nurse.
"Did she study medicine?"
"So far, so good."
"Maybe she really can save Sir Lucero's life."
Georgia sneered. "She probably learned it from TV dramas. Too early to have high hopes now."
But everyone was stunned to see Abigail neatly open his sternum.
"Her first cut was perfect!"
"Zoom in on the details!" Kolten said in shock, wondering how she would deal with it next.
Abigail carefully separated the adhesion between the heart and the posterior wall of the sternum, which was the most challenging part of the operation.
Given Irving's current situation, even an experienced doctor would spend several hours dealing with it.
But Abigail only needed half an hour.
She kept her head down, her charming eyes sparkling, oozing confidence.
All the other doctors held their breath since the operation had come to the most critical point.
If she accidentally damaged the heart tissue or a blood vessel, Irving would die!
Just then, a group of men arrived.
The man in the lead, in his twenties, exuded a powerful aura.
He had dashing eyebrows, a prominent nose, and exquisite facial features. He looked handsome, cold, and dignified.
Seeing them, everyone made way and respectfully greeted him in fear, "Mr. Lucero."
