Veronica couldn’t let him pick her up, so she borrowed Bruce’s car to drive herself. The guy sent her an address, and she planned to arrive at 11:30. She left at 11:10, thinking she’d be right on time. As she drove, she checked her makeup at a red light. Tired eyes from a rough night—thanks to Katie—were her only problem. But just as she got on the highway, traffic came to a stop. Panic set in. She reached for her phone to send a message—only to realize she had left it at the office.
