Chapter 3 His Runaway Pregnant Wife

Carlos “Next time you think about stealing from me, remember, I am the God here. I will put my hand down your throat and pull your tongue out, make a noose around your neck, and watch you die,” I hissed into the air at the barely conscious man I had beaten up. I straightened my posture, giving my coat a good shake. I had been restless ever since i found out Veronica was pregnant. I took that anger out on this traitor but I was still not satisfied. It was something I never expected to happen. I thought that when the time came, I would ask her to abort the baby without caring about it. So why was I unable to get the thought of her aborting his baby out of my mind? “Throw him in the dungeon and keep an eye on his house. Put it under surveillance and inform me when you see someone visit his home,” I spoke coldly, delivering the words quickly so I could speed back home. Before this day, I never wanted to return home. Part of the reason was the innocence in Veronica’s eyes. Sometimes, I would stare into them and see my own reflection in her green eyes. I hated the way I looked in her eyes. Even when I had made myself and my intention to marry her clear to her, she stayed loving me. I wanted her to fight back, yell and protest so that it would have been easier for me to punish her. But she was so gently and understanding that sometimes she made me hate myself. “Home!” I said to my driver as I got into the car. I kept holding the gun in my hands, cleaning it with a handkerchief. I remembered how scared Veronica was when she first saw me use that gun. Tonight, it had blood on it from hitting the captive with it repeatedly. I shouldn’t care what Veronica thinks, but somehow, i was wiping it clean so she wouldn’t see the blood. Once home, I got out of the car and headed straight to my bedroom, knowing I would find her sitting on the bed, in tears. “She will pick me,” I rolled my eyes, certain she wouldn’t dare pick anyone else over me. I could make a bet that she will always pick me. But I wouldn't be able to ask her for abortion, what would I do once she picks me? “So, what have you decided?” Even though I was sure she would pick me, I asked as I stepped into the room, only to raise my head and find the bed empty. My eyes searched for her in the empty room before I strolled over to the bathroom and was shocked to find it empty as well. I slowly walked out of the bedroom to the kitchen, looking inside for Veronica. “Sir,” one of the maids was shocked to see me standing in the kitchen. There were always a number of servers in the manor, so I was certain Veronica must have been around with someone. “I’m looking for Veronica,” I spoke to the maid. The others kept their eyes down, trembling. "Look at his chiseled jawline and high cheekbones, icy gray eyes, and black hair that looks like dark clouds, with muscles and abs. Isn't he yummy? Isn't Veronica too lucky?" I heard one of the maids say before the other hushed her down. I was still a monster to them, and everyone was afraid of staring at me for too long. “Sir, she left for the hospital at your orders a few hours ago,” the maid recalled what Veronica had told everyone. “What? I never asked her to go anywhere!” Panic surged through me, anger bubbling in my veins. “Where’s the driver?” I yelled, rushing out of the kitchen to give that stupid man a call. What I heard from the driver made me want to finish him right on spot. What a stupid man. “She went inside and hasn’t come out for hours, and you didn’t think anything was wrong?” I shouted on phone, going through the closets and clearly seeing signs of missing things and then I found the wedding ring. “She freaking ran away!” I screamed loudly, throwing a vase against the wall. Over the next few hours, I ordered a lockdown for every corner of the land. I expected her to pick me, but she left me. She left the ring behind, not even a note. I didn't get where she got such a courage from. I gave strict instructions to find Veronica and bring her to me. I was angry. The shock was that she chose the unborn child over me. But why did she leave? I never thought she would outright reject hme and leave me. It was not fair. She should have been punished some more. After my father died while being in the car with Veronica's mother, my mother lost herself. She remained with me for a while before she silently left one night with nothing but a letter for me. Ever since then, I had promised to make Veronica suffer. I was going crazy when i was getting no leads. I stood on the road, gathering information from everywhere. My eyes moved to a pregnant woman walking with heavy grocery bags. She was stumbling and looked so weak. Then a group of men catcalled her, even teasing her to the point that they snatched her bags out of her hands. “Stop this,” the woman cried. I quickly reached over and punched the men to the ground, giving her bags back to her. I told my men to take the woman home safely, and that’s when I remembered my own pregnant wife. “Veronica,” I said her name with a heavy sigh. She was beautiful, even pregnant. What if someone touched her? What if a group of men tried to bully her, assault her? That thought filled me with rage. But I had no leads. I'll have to go home to the empty bedroom, where no Veronica will be waiting for me like she used to. "I'm going to find you, Veronica!" I hissed in determination. No one can dare run from the Mafia boss.
