Chapter 10 Anna Was Saved
Elaine accepted the water.
Seeing Hannah's tearful eyes, a small smile touched her lips. "Don't worry, your sister's leg is safe now, and she's no longer in danger."
"Thank you."
Hearing this, Hannah felt overwhelmed with gratitude and nearly bowed to her.
After all, even the famous Dr. Jay Curran had said that an amputation was necessary to save her life.
But this girl accomplished it.
She saved Anna.
Elaine promptly offered her support.
"Make sure to take good care of your sister."
She had to leave quickly.
If Jay discovered it was her, she wouldn't be able to justify her medical expertise.
...
Inside the hospital deputy director's office ...
Jay reclined in his chair, his expression growing increasingly severe.
The more he pondered, the more his anger grew.
How could I have let a life slip away like that?
As a doctor, it was my responsibility to save lives!
He should have forced open the operating room door if that was what it took to save Anna.
He watched in despair as a life slipped away before him.
A profound guilt wrapped around him.
Despite his sharp words, he held a deep sense of professional integrity.
Knock, knock.
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door.
"Excuse me, Dr. Curran."
The assistant entered, her face showing a mix of emotions.
Jay's expression was dark.
"What's going on?"
"Dr. Curran, that patient, she ... "
"Is she dead?"
Without waiting for the assistant to finish, Jay jumped up in fury. "I knew it! Call the police! Arrest that high school student. She's a murderer! She must pay with her life!"
"She's already gone."
The assistant, frightened by his rage, recoiled at the door.
She dared not to enter the office.
In a weak voice, she repeated, "She's already gone."
Jay's anger intensified, nearly causing him to overturn the table.
"Gone? You let her escape? What kind of people are you? She's a killer! Where's her accomplice? The boy who blocked the operating room door! Arrest him as well! They both need to be punished!"
"Dr. Curran ... "
The assistant recoiled from his outburst, raising her hand timidly. "Dr. Curran, please try to calm down."
"Calm down? How am I supposed to calm down?"
"Dr. Curran, the patient didn't die."
"I know the patient didn't ... What did you just say?"
His words abruptly stopped.
He rushed over to the assistant, locking his gaze on her. Raising his voice, he demanded, "What did you just say? Repeat it!"
"The patient didn't die."
Jay was taken aback.
"Not only did she survive, but her leg was also saved."
What's going on?
"Or, you can go to the ward and see for yourself," the assistant said softly.
She scrutinized Jay's face intently.
This moment marked a pivotal shift in Dr. Curran's professional life.
He had determined that the only chance for the patient to live was through amputation.
However, a high school student showed that he was mistaken.
Jay didn't say anything.
Before the assistant could complete her words, she watched the man march out of the office.
Jay hurried to the ward in one breath.
He panted heavily, fueled by excitement.
His striking features were tinged with a slight blush.
Hannah was positioned beside the bed.
"Dr. Curran ... "
...
Jay stayed quiet, taking a moment to calm his breathing.
He swiftly and meticulously checked Anna's wounds.
As the assistant had reported, she was still alive and her leg was spared.
How could this be?
From my extensive clinical experience, this should have been impossible!
Yet that girl accomplished it!
That girl, she's just a teenager!
How did she manage to do it?
Jay ushered Hannah out of the ward.
"Dr. Curran ... "
Hannah was taken aback by his unusual actions.
"Who is she?"
Jay inquired urgently.
"Tell me!
"Who is the girl who rescued your sister?"
