Chapter 10 I'm just a Driver
After Mrs Morgan finished her words, Rosemary cut in, "As far as I know, the Lexington Group group is now called the Sun Group."
"The Sun Group?"
Her grandma frowned, looked at Rosemary and asked, "Rosemary, is the news reliable?"
"Reliable!" Rosemary said affirmatively.
Mrs Morgan said, "Whatever the name is, you must seize the opportunity of cooperation. I will redistribute the shares of the property of our family according to your comprehensive performance."
As soon as they heard that it was related to "money" and their own interests. They scrambled to show their ability to Mrs Morgan.
Benjemin said, "Mom, I'll talk to Chris Jones from the Sun Group about the cooperation."
"My son-in-law is from the Industrial and Commercial Bureau. Ask him to talk to the director of the Bureau and see if he can talk to the Sun Group." said Eva.
Perry said, "Mom, I have a good relationship with several senior executives of the Sun Group. I'll talk with them."
Only Diana didn’t say anything.
Diana was as anxious like a cat on a hot tin roof. If her family did not participate in this project, then when her grandma died, she would definitely not get much property. It didn't matter that her husband's family was down and out, but her daughter's husband was a loser too.
Just when Diana didn't know what to do, Steven said, "Chris from the Sun Group is my brother's classmate. I can ask my brother to do it!"
Hearing this, Diana was overjoyed. Steven really made her proud! If only he were her son-in-law!
She proudly glanced at Eva and said to Mrs Morgan with a smile, "Mom, don't worry! Steven is Rosemary’s classmate."
"Yes," said Mrs Morgan, "I hope you won't let me down. If you lose the cooperation with the Sun Group, the business your father set up will be destroyed by us."
Rosemary wanted to say that Charles was the driver of Bob Miller, the leader of the Sun Group. Seeing that he was sitting next to her and eating with his head down, as if he was not interested in this matter, she did not tell them. It was strange that Charles had such a great opportunity to impress her family, but he was indifferent.
Mrs Morgan said, "Well, since you all think up of solutions, then it depends on your performance. Let's eat!"
During the dinner, Mrs Morgan asked Rosemary, "Rosemary, how is your case going?"
"It's okay! I have paid back all the money I owe."
"Did you borrow the money?"
"Yes, I did!"
Mrs Morgan glanced at Diana. At that time, it was Diana's idea that she asked everyone not to lend money to Rosemary.
Diana wanted to force Rosemary and Charles to divorce due to this matter, but her wish failed.
Diana had already known that it was Charles who borrowed money from the outside to pay off the debt for Rosemary. She looked at Charles coldly and asked, "Charles, where did you borrow the money?"
"From a friend."
"A friend?"
After hearing this, Diana sneered and said, "Charles, in addition to Big Fool Dave, who else is your friend?"
"Mom, everyone has several friends," Rosemary defended for Charles
"Rosemary, who can lend Charles one million dollars at one time? Maybe you being sold, you do not know."
"Mom, it's none of your business."
"You..."
Diana was so angry that she thought her eldest daughter was too stubborn! It is hard to keep a daughter home after marriage. She was so angry that she said to her youngest daughter, Sophia, "Sophia, you should be more vigilant when you find a boyfriend in the future. Don't be like your sister. You should not find such a useless husband."
"Mom! My grandfather made the decision about my sister's marriage. You and dad both agreed at the time, so how can you blame my sister?"
"Your grandfather knew a lot of famous people when he was alive, I never knew that he would..." Diana glanced at Daniel, her husband, and sighed, "I just want to fullfill your grandfather’s last wish when he was alive. I didn't expect your sister to be pregnant so soon."
Charles seemed to not care at all. No matter what you said to him, he was basically in a state of self isolation, as if it was none of his business.
Diana looked at Charles angrily.
Steven said half jokingly, "I went abroad at that time. I didn't expect Rosemary to get married so early."
"Yes, you and Rosemary are a perfect match." Diana smiled with her eyes narrowed into slits.
Betty said in a childish voice, "Don't say that to my father. He will be sad. Moreover, in my heart, my mother and my father are a perfect couple."
"Betty, you are too young to understand adults’ affairs."
"I'm not young anymore. I'll be five years old after my birthday!" Betty said and yawned.
Betty's words amused everyone at the table.
Charles thought it was a waste of time to attend the family feast here. He said to his wife, "Rose, Betty is sleepy. Let's go home!"
"Okay!"
Rosemary also stood up and said to Mrs Morgan, "Grandma, Betty is sleepy, so we are leaving now."
Mrs Morgan didn't ask her to stay and nodded.
Diana winked at Steven, and he understood what she meant. He stood up and said gallantly, "Rosemary, let me drive you home!"
"No, thanks. We have a car."
"Didn't you sell your car?" Steven asked in confusion.
Rosemary explained, "Charles is now a private driver. If the boss doesn't go out, the car will stay at our home for Charles’s own use."
Sophia exaggerated, "You don't know that my brother-in-law drives a luxury car, Phaeton, worth about two million dollars."
Hearing that Charles's "Phaeton" was worth about two million dollars, everyone present was flabbergasted. It seemed that Charles had a strong background.
Charles affectionately glanced at his sister-in-law, Sophia, and left with his wife with Betty in his arms.
Steven was an outsider here. He had no face to stay any longer and left with an excuse that he had something to do.
Matthew, Eva’s son-in-law who works in the Industrial and Commercial Bureau, sneered, "he is just a driver. Why should she show off?"
"Matthew, are you jealous? I heard that my brother-in-law's boss is rich."
Sophia didn't know who Charles's boss was. But she didn't like the "brother-in-law" of her Aunt's family, who always sneered at her family.
"No matter how rich he is, he is the boss, and Charles has to work for him with salary."
"That's better than being a lapdog following your chief all day long!"
Eva was unhappy to hear that and said coldly, "Sophia, what are you talking about?"
"Oh, I was wrong. I shouldn't call him lapdog. I should call him persistent follower!" She stood up and said, "I'm finished. I'm leaving now!" Ignoring the crowd, she went out with her backpack.
Eva was so angry that she trembled all over. She pointed at Diana and said, "Sister, look at the child you educate. She is really lack of education."
"Your child's education is not much better!" Diana directly argued with her sister Eva.
Mrs Morgan clapped and slammed her hands on the table and said, "That's enough! You can’t be as ignorant as your children. If the family lives in harmony, all affairs will prosper. Look at you, you're always scheming. I have to warn you, if anyone of you doesn't work in the cooperation with the Sun Group, don't blame me for not giving you any property." Then she walked away with her crutch.
When Charles and Rosemary back to their rental house, Betty had fallen asleep already.
Charles gently put the child on the bed of the small room. He went out to the bathroom and pressed the hot water machine. He came out and said to Rosemary, "Rosemary, the water is heated. Go to take a shower!"
Holding her arms, Rosemary looked at Charles's face and asked, "Charles, let me ask you a question. Grandma said that she wants the cooperate with the Sun Group, and it would be related to the division of family property in the future. Why didn't you say you know Bob Miller at that time?"
"It's not up to me whether they can cooperate with the Sun Group or not. I'm just Mr Miller's driver."
"But at least you know Bob Miller, which means you have more chances than them!"
Charles smiled and said, "Rose, if you want to help your grandma do this, shall I tell Mr. Miller now?"
"Forget it. You are right. You are just a driver. It's useless to tell Bob Miller about it..."
