Chapter 15
Beth’s POV
“Hey...”
April’s eyes were wide open, and her voice sounded a bit husky but she did look very brand welcoming.
I, on the other hand, just stood there lost at what to do or how to even introduce myself to her.
April on the other hand seemed friendly, she tried to give me a big smile, but her dry peeling lips restrained her from doing so.
Due to long-time hydrophobia, her lips cracked a little bit whenever she made an ambiguous movement with her lips.
I think it may have hurt her so much because she gasped and cried out in pain, "IT HURTS! It hurts!” She gasped.
I bit my lips and took out a thermos from the cabinet in a great hurry. I poured some water into a glass and handed it over to her, reminding her carefully, "It's hot, so be careful”.
April nodded, took the glass and gulped down the water. Then she wiped off the water droplets on the corners of her mouth with the back of her hand.
"Hey. I'm April. Who are you? " She finally intrigued herself and asked me as she stared at the medicine bottle that was next to her bed. “Are you our new pack doctor?”
I wasn't sure if April would be cured. So I could only keep silence. I was afraid that I made the wrong choice and killed April. Then my name will be cursed like my dad.
April, however, abruptly stood up from bed and rushed towards me.
But the violent movement she did cause her to feel dizzy. She stood still for a minute before collecting herself together, but she still walked up towards me.
She stood in front, stared at me as if I was her prey.
A familiar fear overwhelmed me. Just seeing her standing in front of me, looking so frustrated and worked up, I began to fear that she would do something to me just like Joe always did.
She moved closer to me but I continued to shrink back until I couldn’t move any longer. I closed my eyes not wanting to see her lashing out on me but she didn’t do such a thing, instead, a warm and fragrant embrace engulfed me.
"You are a lifesaver! I feel way too better. Gosh, what magic did you do?" April opened her arms and gave me a loud peg on my cheek.
I widened my eyes and saw her running back and forth in the room. "I'm still a bit weak, but I'm much better now. I know it will take me some time to recover, but I just hope it will be quick."
April said, stop jumping up and down in the room.
Aaron and Peter must have heard the sounds she was making because they rushed into the room right when April jumped on top of the deck.
For a few seconds, the air in the room seemed to have become solid, and I felt a little embarrassed for April, but she didn't care at all.
Running up to Peter as fast as she could, April raised her fist and hit him hard on the shoulder. Then she turned and punched Aaron twice.
They glanced at each other and beamed with joy. They looked so good together, sharing emotions one after the other, but I didn't think I could be a part of it.
I envied her for being able to express her emotions straightforwardly, which was impossible for me.
Seeing the happy look on their faces, I decided to go back to my room and give them some time to bond together with her mate and her very good friend.
Thinking of this, I didn’t hesitate any longer, I walked to the door as quietly as I could.
"Wait!" April rushed to my side and put her arm around my shoulders and said to Aaron and Peter, "Believe it or not, I did not suffer the plague in vain. I end up lucky enough to get a gift and that gift it…”
She paused and looked at me with confusion in her eyes.
"Beth." I said, looking at her searching eyes. I figured she was trying to remember my name, so I saved her the trouble.
"Oh! That's right. Beth is my gift. From now on, she is my bestie! My sister from a different mother!"
Since April put her arm around my neck, I found it hard to breathe. I felt dizzy. My body went soft and wobbled a few times.
April was startled. She let go of my hand in panic and looked at Peter for help. Then she shook her head like a kid and raised her hands.
I rubbed my head with my hands and the dizziness vanished quickly.
My wolf shook her hair and said she liked April, so do I.
April is a very optimistic woman and she always had a bright smile on her face that easily made me think of the bright shining sun.
Happiness and light, the very two things I don’t have, and somehow, I had a feeling that, just maybe, April could be able to make me forget everything that needs to be forgotten.
Having her as a sister from another mother, like she said wasn’t a bad thing, I thought.
"I'm fine. I'm just feeling a bit cold." I said, reassuring all of them.
The doors and windows were closed, yet somehow, I still felt blown by the strong cold wind coming from nowhere. My lips also turned dark. Yet I didn't care. I ignored and endured it.
April let out a sigh of relief before she continued talking to Peter again.
Aaron looked at them helplessly and walked to my side. He held my cold hands with a worried look on his face.
He lifted up my fingers, and brought them close to his mouth, he opened his mouth and breathed hot air on my hands in an attempt to warm them.
It was such a little act, but it was able to warm my heart with it. My wolf inside was delighted.
The sunlight rays from the outside shone through the glass windows, shining bright on everyone’s happy faces.
There at that moment, with the happy faces and the warmth circulating the room, was the happiest moment of my life.
"Why do I feel your hands are getting colder?" Aaron's voice brought me back to earth.
He frowned, took off his coat, and draped it over my shoulders.
But even after that, I was still feeling cold, and the chill seemed to surge out of my body. I was trembling a little bit, and my fingertips gradually became pale.
Aaron looked very anxious. He tried many ways to keep me warm, but it was all useless,
At the end, I was just covered with at least four or five clothes. From a distance, I must have looked like a clumsy bear in the woods. Thinking of this, I couldn't help but lower my head and sniffle a smile.
In the next second, something unexpected occurred. When I was absent-minded, Aaron took off his clothes and held me tightly in his arms.
His chest was burning, and his strong muscles were pressed against my body. The lines of his body seemed to have grown to fit me perfectly, and our bodies clung to each other, without any gaps at all.
I could no longer think. Aaron's hot breath reached my ear and spread quickly, like a burning flame. "Better now?"
