Chapter 9
Aaron's POV
"She is no longer bleeding. I've done everything I can."
Haven packed up the medicine box and looked at me sympathetically. "Arc is on his way. He's the best healer. If he gets here in time, Beth might get better, but... As you know, Arc needs a while."
It was a long way. Even though Arc got here as fast as he could, it still took time.
"She is covered in wounds and scars. It is a miracle that she is still alive."
"She is covered in wounds and scars?"
"Yes. Some of the wounds have healed, but I could tell at a glance that they came from years of abuse," Haven sighed. "I've never met a patient like her. I might manage to treat her external injuries, but..."
She paused. I raised my eyebrows and whispered, "But what? You'd better tell me the truth, Haven."
She sighed heavily and glanced at Beth. "Given her current condition, even if her wounds are cured, I am still concerned about her psychological trauma. How can she deal with it? The way she has been treated over the years has made her desperate."
The words "psychological trauma" made me suffer. I felt heartbroken.
"What can I do to restore her hope?"
Haven shook her head and sighed, "It will be a long shot. If she can't regain hope, even if her wounds are healed, she'll still die."
"Why?" I didn't follow.
She spread her hands. "Despair drove her to suicide, which was enough to make her die again."
"I won’t allow it to happen."
Haven looked at me surprisingly, then nodded.
Beth had lost hope in everything, and desperation was the worst.
What did she go through? What made her decide to kill herself? At the thought of these, I couldn't help but feel my heart ache.
However, no matter what she had gone through, I would undo it. Beth had no hope; then I would be her hope.
As long as Beth could hold on until Arc was here, everything would be fine.
“Where’s Arc?” I mind-linked Peter, asking coldly.
“Alpha, some fallen trees block Arc’s car...”
“Take him here. No matter how. 5 minutes!”
“Copy.”
That’s not enough. I couldn’t wait for miracle.
Out of the blue, my line of sight fell on the vial of golden liquid. Perhaps it could be of use. Such an idea appeared in my mind suddenly and firmly. Without hesitation, I opened the vial's lid and poured the liquid into Beth's mouth.
Beth swallowed it bit by bit, and some liquid flowed out from the corner of her mouth.
When Haven saw my actions, she sighed and turned around, driving the others out of the room.
Time passed by.
I held Beth's hand devoutly, but her situation was getting worse.
"I can no longer feel her wolf."
My wolf told me in my mind, and his voice was very sad. He said, "She is dead, Aaron. Our mate is dead."
Beth's body was getting colder and colder. Her skin lost its elasticity and became stiff. Purple spots started to emerge on her face. I could no longer feel the heaving of her chest. Even though I leaned my head on her soft chest, I could not hear her heartbeat.
Everything told me that she had left me.
"No.She will wake up."
I muttered to myself over and over again.
Haven looked at me with sympathy.
The sun was rising slowly. I sat by Beth's bed all night. I said a lot of things to her, but she never answered me. I became powerless and even wanted to accept reality.
The warm light shone in, enveloping Beth and me.
I felt a bit of warmth from Beth's hand, which surprised me. I was not sure if it was the temperature of the sun or her. I could only stare at her body. "Beth!"
Beth lay in bed with her eyes closed. She did not answer my question.
Where was Haven? She needed to see this!
My heart was beating wildly, foretelling something. I looked at Beth with anticipation, afraid that I would miss any change in her, even if it was just a little! The blood in my body was running uncontrollably. I had to constantly shake my head to keep calm.
Crack!
There was a crisp sound coming from Beth's body.
It was the sound of bones healing. I was very certain!
Her broken rib straightened in an instant, and her bulging chest regained its original curve.
Haven claimed Beth's death. Haven stated that there was no hope of Beth coming back. However, Beth managed to come back to me.
I couldn't breathe. I looked at Beth quietly. Her dry hair was becoming a little shiny, her sunken skin was getting back to its original state, the bluish-purple spots were disappearing, and her bloodless lips were becoming moist and plump...
A healthy blush appeared on her face.
My heart stopped beating for a few seconds. I moved to the bedside and leaned over to look at Beth.
Her eyes, which were originally closed, suddenly opened. She woke up!
I hold her in my arms. I could feel Beth's chest rising and falling. The heat of her breath warmed my neck. I pressed my face against her neck, greedily sniffing her scent.
I was so close to losing her. Such fear made me unable to control myself. I held her more tightly.
Beth's bones made a slight noise. I tried to calm down, let go of my hands, and looked at her gratefully.
"Am I still alive..."
Beth's voice was still very weak.
“Yes. Yes.” I stared at my mate, who just opened her beautiful eyes. She has a pair of chocolate brown eyes. Mesmerizing brown. But soon, her eyes swell with tears.
“Reject me.”
What I heard should be an illusion.
