Chapter 16 The Consequences Of Boasting
The enthusiastic classmates felt that Liu Mingyang needed further clarification, so they proceeded to explain once more.
"Yes, it's true. Your chairman even extended dinner invitations to Liu Mingyang's father on multiple occasions," one of them confirmed.
Jiang Xueer was momentarily taken aback, but as she noticed Liu Mingyang's flushed face, everything suddenly clicked. It was common knowledge in Jiangcheng that many sought to establish connections with the Jiang family, leading to endless gossip and speculation.
How could someone like him catch her attention?
"You audacious fool, it seems that merely losing an arm would be too lenient for you. How dare you climb the ranks at Jiang Group through networking. You must have a death wish," Ding Baosan exclaimed, realizing that Liu Mingyang had fabricated connections to impress, including the false story of Mr. Jiang inviting his father to dinner.
Just as he was about to take action, Liu Mingyang fell to his knees in fear, pleading, "Master Ding, please, please don't act rashly. I was wrong, spare my arm!"
Tears streamed down his face as he continued, "I should never have lied in such a manner. I deserve punishment, I will never repeat this mistake!"
The revelation left everyone outraged, cursing Liu Mingyang for his deceit. They vowed to deal with him accordingly.
The drama unfolding failed to capture Jiang Xue'er's interest, as she remained focused on Chen Song, who was surrounded by two women.
"Chen Song, I suggest you rid yourself of these companions. Why not consider me instead?" she provocatively suggested, casting a glance at the two women.
The women involuntarily loosened their grip, feeling inferior in Jiang Xue'er's presence.
Chen Song chuckled, "Xue'er, stop teasing."
Jiang Xue'er playfully retorted, "What, do you look down on me?"
Chen Song hurriedly denied, "No, of course not."
Amused by Chen Song's reaction, Jiang Xue'er suggested they leave for the abalone banquet.
Suddenly, Wu Tao interjected, revealing that Liu Lanshan's company did indeed have a partnership with the Jiang Group, proving Liu Mingyang's claims true.
The revelation sparked chaos among the crowd. Who was telling the truth?
"Liu Mingyang, be quiet!" he snapped.
Jiang Xue'er was taken aback, questioning the integrity of cooperating with someone like Liu Lanshan for wasteland development.
She promptly made a call to verify the information, instructing the cancellation of the cooperation.
Liu Mingyang pleaded desperately, realizing the consequences for his family's business. Jiang Xue'er remained resolute, stating that those who tarnish the Jiang Group's reputation are unworthy of collaboration.
Chen Song shook his head, recognizing the consequences of deceit and dishonesty.
As they exited the private room, Jiang Xueer approached Chen Song and said, "Did you know? My grandfather is in excellent health now, with a hearty appetite. He can eat three large meat buns for breakfast, I have never seen him like this before. He even mentioned feeling decades younger!"
Jiang Xueer sighed once more, "It's all thanks to you. I never expected that a small pill could have such a miraculous effect!"
Ding Baosan quickly added, "My father too, he has completely recovered, it's truly miraculous!"
Sun Mei and Yuan Ke'er overheard this conversation, pondering to themselves: A pill, what kind of pill? Can it truly bring someone back from the brink of death? They both made a mental note of this.
Chen Song took a few steps before realizing that Wu Tao had not followed. Since Ding Baosan and the others did not invite him, he halted and said, "You all go ahead, I'd like to have a private chat with my friend."
He hadn't had the chance to inquire about his recent circumstances in private, nor had they been able to have a proper conversation.
Upon entering the private room, he was immediately approached by Wang Youtian, who urgently grasped his sleeve and pleaded, "Chen Song, please save our teacher. The teacher's life is now in your hands. For the sake of our teacher-student relationship, I implore you to save him!"
Regardless of whether Chen Song truly understood medicine, he had no choice as Wuminghe had already turned him down. In order to survive, he had to put aside any doubts and earnestly begged Chen Song.
At that moment, Yuan Ke'er, who had been observing from the sidelines, sneered, "Teacher Wang, do you really believe Chen Song has medical knowledge? Do you truly think he can cure you and save your life? Don't be absurd, don't we all know him well enough?"
Witnessing Yuan Ke'er's change in demeanor, Chen Song was both puzzled and intrigued, wondering what was going on in this woman's head and which wires were crossed.
All eyes turned to Yuan Keran, as if she was about to unveil a major secret. She stated, "The reason why that girl from the Jiang family is so deferential to Chen Song is because he somehow obtained a few pills. These pills are likely some sort of Indian wonder drug, which miraculously reversed Old Master Jiang's aging. Do you believe that's possible? It's all a sham!"
She paused briefly before continuing, "This worthless individual has been in my household for three years, doing nothing but chores and never venturing outside. Do you think he has any knowledge of medicine? Others may be fooled, but not me. I know him inside out. How can such a useless person have a future, unless the impossible happens!
"Those pills might just be a catalyst, an illusion of turning back time. Who knows, in a few days he might meet his end, and that's when Chen Song, this good-for-nothing, will have to run for his life."
Listening to Yuan Keran's confident assertions, Chen Song couldn't help but marvel at her. She truly was a woman with a head full of straw, possessing such analytical skills.
"I believe Keran raises a valid point. I heard earlier about the miraculous effects of those pills, making someone appear decades younger. We've all been to university, can something without scientific backing like this truly occur?" Sun Mei remarked gravely.
