Chapter 5 Used To It
Nina lay in a daze as she experienced one nightmare after another. She woke up from the nightmare, and Zachary happened to be sitting by her bed.
"Having nightmares again?" He hugged her while patting her back gently and handing her a wet tissue to wipe her face.
"Mr. Malone, we should keep our distance."
"Sorry. I've grown accustomed to it over the years." The words slipped out, and even Zachary himself was stunned.
"Ouch! My leg hurts." Sophie suddenly fell to the ground.
Zachary didn't have time to care about Nina; he hurried to help Sophie up.
"Sophie, are you hurt? I told you to stay in the room and wait for me. Why did you come out on your own? Let me take you back to your room first."
Zachary took Sophie back to her room, and Mya brought the chicken chowder up.
"Mrs. Malone, have some chicken chowder. Mr. Malone specially instructed me to make it for you. He still cares for you."
Care? Does he care for her? And what about Sophie?
Zachary had never loved her; he was just fulfilling his duty as a husband because they were still not divorced.
"Mya, you can take it away. I have no appetite now." Nina suddenly disliked a man like Zachary.
"Mrs. Malone, you haven't eaten all day. Have some chowder. I'll feed you."
"No need, Mya." Nina turned over and wrapped herself tightly in the blanket.
She was so hungry that her eyes were blurry, but she would rather be hungry than accept Zachary's charity!
"Why aren't you eating the chowder? Is it not tasty? I'll have the servants make you a new one." Nina was both hungry and uncomfortable. She drifted off to sleep when suddenly she heard Zachary whispering in her ear.
Which woman could resist his tenderness and thoughtfulness?
"Be good. Let me help you up. Take a few more sips. You haven't eaten anything today, so you need to take care of your stomach in the future."
"Okay." Nina's voice was a bit choked up as she took the bowl from him and took a big sip.
"Drink slowly. Be careful. It's hot."
Nina finished the whole bowl of chowder obediently.
"Nina, I'll take you to Jade Garden."
She nodded. Zachary wanted to send her away because this place belonged to him and Sophie. It would be embarrassing for her to stay here! Zachary couldn't stand her for another moment!
Her mother would definitely feel heartbroken if her mother saw her like this. It was better not to go back for now and worry them.
If her parents knew that she and Zachary were getting a divorce, they would definitely worry. If they found out that they were getting a divorce, but she was pregnant with Zachary's child, they would be up all night worrying.
Her father already had a weak heart and high blood pressure, so she was afraid he couldn't handle this blow.
Although no one lived in Jade Garden, it was cleaned spotlessly, and the fridge was stocked with ingredients that Nina loved.
"Nina, I have to go on a business trip. It might take a week before I come back, so you can stay here for these few days."
"Okay. Let me know when you're back, and we'll go to the city hall to get the paperwork done."
"Sure. You should also think about what you want after the divorce. As long as I can provide it, I will give it to you."
Nina fell silent. If she said she wanted Zachary, would he give him to her?
"I'm leaving. Rest well."
"Okay."
Nina watched him walk away and was unable to snap out of her daze.
The house was empty and cold; her heart felt just as icy.
She used to eagerly anticipate Zachary's return from business trips, but this time, she wished he would come back later.
