Chapter 2 The Man At The Resort
Lucy felt the guy she was interested in must have gotten into the resort when she wasn't looking. To find out, she seized the thirty minutes break period as an opportunity to leave the restaurant. She made it a routine for three consecutive days and on the fourth dawned an encounter that would change her destiny.
Lucy walked into the resort on day four, to deliver a package from her boss. Her heart race because of the person she spotted just as she slammed a door shut behind her.
It was the cute guy from the other day, all alone in a game room — this was her chance.
“Hey, I don't expect to find you here.” she asked, carrying in her voice a mix of excitement and challenge.
He paused his game and examined her with his expression shifting from surprise to confused.
“I'm sorry, I don't think we have met. You must he mistaking.” His tone was mild as he exhaled heavily, ready to continue playing.
“uhm, we met here about four days ago... at the aquarium section where you asked me if I've seen your girlfriend, remember?”
"Oh, I remember you. The girl staring at me like you've seen a ghost."
"Actually I did." She said with urgency. He looked her in the eye for a moment.
"I don't think so." And whilst he was about looking away,
"You should. So, where is she now?"
"Who?" He asked wondering.
"Your girlfriend." She said.
"I don't have a girlfriend. By the way, you shouldn't be here. This is no place for ladies."
"I came looking to deliver this to someone. Tell me, why are you denying your girlfriend because of me?"
"Denying? ...because of who?" He paused his game the second time and this time, he was lost in the moment, beholding her face. "Just because you are beautiful doesn't mean I would deny someone if actually I love her."
"Stop okay. You both kissed right in front of me. Quit denying your love for her."
"I admit we kissed, but I can't admit I love her. Juanita belongs to me. I own her. Why am I even having this discussion with a stranger. It's time to leave. I don't want to hurt you."
"You sure don't look like one capable of harm."
"Believe me, I am capable of many things. Ever asked yourself why it is just me in this room?"
"I don't have to. All I see is someone lonely and at some point would cry out for companionship. And you think you own Juanita? Wait until she finds a better man. I am leaving."
Before she could take a step, he darted towards her, too fast for her eyes to follow, and with his hand on her neck, she was pinned to the wall.
"You're not leaving without my permission..."
He didn't even finish before she interrupted "you already gave the permission. Get your hands off me!"
"...you think you are tough huh? I own whoever I want, and there is no better man out there but me."
"If you are a better man, you won't be this aggressive to a lady you barely know. Not even her name. So, get your hands off me if you truly wish to earn that title."
He slowly let go in a way that seems like she commanded him with a spell. She could tell from the look in his eyes, he was disappointed for ever grabbing her in that manner.
"You're right. I am not a better man." He stared down speaking softly. His hands on the wall, she remained in-between.
Lucy lifted his face with her fingers just below his chin.
"Your willingness to let go, tells me you can be. You only need help from someone who is not afraid of what you fear the most. I can help you if you want."
"And what do you think I fear the most?"
"Yourself." She said with a whispering tone.
"Who are you to know that?" For three minutes, silence grew in their midst until he figured he was falling for her. "Tell me your name."
"Lucy." She replied. Her chest uncontrollably rising as his lips drew near.
"Cute name, and perfect for the beauty before my eyes. Tell me, how do you intend to help me?"
"In many ways, you have no idea. But first, by letting you know you own nothing and you can loose what you think you have if you continue this way. Time to go." She restricted him from proceeding and with her finger on his lips, she moved him backwards and escaped his trap.
"Please stay." His voice echoed while placing his hand on her left arm to pull her back.
Lucy looked him in the eyes, perceiving how desperate he was, she made up her mind to leave because she knew she was not strong enough to resist him further — she also wanted him.
...if I leave now, I may lose him forever. I may not get this chance again. I don't even know his name. Should I ask him? No! I need to leave, else he thinks he owns me if I give him access...
"I just want to talk. It's about Juanita."
"Some other time. I have to go. You will find me at the restaurant across the street. Come by anytime."
"I am Jacobs." He said immediately she opened the door. It felt like he was addicted by her scent.
...who is she? Why do I barely see her around?... he questioned in himself and in a moment, the chaos in his head seemed to glide as thoughts of her filled his heart.
Towards evening of the following day, Jacobs was out to find her at the restaurant, hoping to bring her home to his castle. This time, he wanted to appear real — not just casual, he showed up in his best.
"Lucy, there is a man asking to see you. He appears rich. Must be a billionaire. I told you rich folks will come looking for you too. Gorgeous Lucy!" Andrew, her colleague and a chef informed her with exciting gestures the moment he walked into the kitchen.
Blushing, she dropped a tray she held and dashed out of the kitchen avoiding to speak a word to Andrew. Showing up, she observed how other clients kept staring, making her uncomfortable,
"Let's talk outside." She whispered in his ears the moment she saw it was Jacobs.
