Chapter 8 I'm Going to Seduce Her
Since Cordelia didn't fall for his charm, Ethan decided to resort to flaunting his wealth.
He believed that all women in the world were the same—they loved wealthy men. Every time he visited those nightclubs, countless women would flock toward him as long as he showed some cash. Thus, he doubted that Cordelia wouldn't be tempted.
However, as Ethan proudly flaunted his family background, Cordelia quickened her pace.
In the end, Ethan had to speed up and block her path.
"One last question. Would you like to go on a date with me tonight?" As he spoke, he flashed what he believed to be his most charming smile. Since he was a mixed race, he was stunning.
Looking at him, Cordelia sighed inwardly and wondered how someone as quiet and reserved as Tobias could be friends with the man standing before her.
"Sir…"
Just as Cordelia was about to call him that for the third time, a silver Maybach approached from afar.
The tires screeched sharply against the pavement as the Maybach came to a halt not far from the building entrance. Then, the man in the driver's seat rolled down the window and glanced out the window.
At that moment, he noticed Cordelia standing at the entrance of the company while wearing a professional outfit. She seemed to be arguing with Ethan as her face was flushed red. Despite this, Ethan pestered her persistently, making her so frustrated that she simply lowered her head to avoid him. That submissive posture reminded Tobias when he had gone to her school to find her.
As Tobias thought about it, he couldn't help but smile.
Three years had passed, yet he felt that she was still as innocent as before.
He had encountered many women, but rarely had he met someone like Cordelia. Ethan was right when he said that Cordelia resembled a pure lily.
Tobias rested his arm on the car window as he lightly tapped his fingers.
"Get in."
When Cordelia heard his voice, she dodged Ethan's touch and snapped her head toward the voice. Then, she saw that familiar car and the man inside.
Glancing sideways, Cordelia politely smiled at Ethan and said apologetically, "Sir, I'm sorry, but Mr. Larkin is calling for me. I'll be leaving now. Goodbye!"
She was grateful for Tobias, who had appeared in time. Otherwise, she had no idea how long Ethan's pestering would have continued.
Then, Cordelia quickly walked past Ethan and jogged toward the Maybach, leaving Ethan standing there with a dumbfounded expression.
Tobias?
Ethan turned around and watched as Cordelia got into Tobias' car. His mouth twitched uncontrollably as he cried out, "Tobias! How dare you snatch my girl?! You are a two-faced man!"
He hugged his head in frustration, letting out wild roars while kicking pebbles furiously.
Meanwhile, Cordelia couldn't suppress the smile tugging at her lips, which Tobias happened to catch. Then, emotions filled his eyes again.
With a soft bang, she closed the car door and buckled her seatbelt.
Tobias had already started the engine and floored the gas pedal as the car roared away.
The silver Rolls-Royce sped down the street, and Tobias had a grim expression.
Initially, Cordelia didn't know who had provoked him. However, after some time, it finally dawned on her that even if Tobias had no romantic feelings for her, he likely wouldn't tolerate another man flirting with his "wife" right in front of him!
…
Seated inside a beautifully decorated restaurant, Cordelia smiled lightly and looked at Tobias with bright eyes.
"Are you close with that man earlier?" she asked.
"Not really," Tobias replied faintly without much thought. He wasn't about to admit that Ethan was one of his few friends.
"I see…" Cordelia suppressed her laughter as she pursed her lips gently. Sometimes, she found Tobias, who was seemingly cold and decisive, rather adorable.
Cordelia had rarely dined alone with Tobias, and this was one of the few rare moments. As the waiter handed over the menu, she flipped through the pages and hesitated about what to order as the menu was filled with endless choices.
"A medium-rare filet, cod, and foie gras," Tobias said calmly from across the table.
The waiter smiled and nodded before removing the menu from Cordelia's hands, saving her from the agony of indecision.
Feeling relieved, she sipped her orange juice lightly.
Moments later, three dishes were served.
As Cordelia sliced a small piece of steak, she suddenly remembered something and asked, "Why were you at the company entrance earlier?" After all, Tobias should have left an hour before her.
