Chapter 7 Do You Know Who She Is?
Cordelia immediately recognized the man was none other than her nominal husband, Tobias.
"Good day, Mr. Larkin, Mr. Reeds." Lucy greeted respectfully as she bowed toward the two men.
Cordelia quickly lowered her head and greeted as well.
Tobias either truly didn't notice Cordelia or chose to ignore her as he gave Lucy a slight nod before stepping out of the elevator with Ethan and heading toward his office.
However, just as Tobias was about to leave, Lucy suddenly tugged Cordelia's sleeve and said, "Mr. Larkin, this is the recruit in the secretary department, Cordelia. I've already sent her the company's work targets for this year."
Caught off guard, Cordelia was startled. When she lifted her head, Tobias had already stopped in front of her. Though he hadn't turned around, his imposing aura alone silenced everyone around.
Cordelia lowered her gaze and knew it wasn't appropriate to address him by name in such a formal setting. Thus, she corrected herself. "Mr. Larkin, I…"
However, before she could say anything, Tobias cut her off by humming in response and turned to Lucy. "Since she's a newcomer, have her familiarize herself with the work environment as soon as possible. All new hires undergo a three-month probation period, and their performance will determine if they are qualified to be promoted to full-time or not."
His words left Cordelia no room to respond, catching her completely off guard. His cold tone made it seem as if he didn't know her at all. Even Lucy was visibly stunned as she struggled to close her mouth in disbelief.
Long after Tobias left, Cordelia's heart continued to race. She tried to maintain her calmness as she followed Lucy absentmindedly.
On the other hand, as Tobias sat in his seat, Ethan walked toward the water dispenser to get himself a drink as he said, "That new secretary is quite a beauty. She is just my type. What do you say? Can I have her?"
"Have her?" Tobias leaned back and said faintly, "Do you know who she is?"
"Isn't she your secretary? But seriously, you've got to share sometimes. What if you run out of stamina?" Ethan smirked mischievously.
"Run out of stamina?" Tobias smirked coldly. "That would only happen to someone like you."
Hearing his retort, Ethan cursed inwardly as he looked at Tobias while tapping his fingers lightly on the desk. "I'm serious. If you don't mind, I'll ask her out after work."
Hearing his words, Tobias paused for a moment as a faint glint flickered through his eyes.
"Do as you please," he said with a hint of displeasure. Then, without further ado, he swiftly signed the documents in front of him.
However, Ethan didn't notice Tobias' subtle change in tone as he grinned smugly. The image of Cordelia's face popped up in his mind, instantly lifting his spirits.
Women were never in short supply for Ethan. Unlike Tobias, he knew how to enjoy life.
…
By the time Cordelia finished touring the company, her feet ached. However, the good news was that she had familiarized herself with the place.
As the workday ended, she packed up the documents Lucy had assigned her and headed out with the others.
"Hey, lady." A cheerful male voice suddenly called from beside her.
Startled, Cordelia glanced to her right.
Then, she saw a tall and handsome man strolling toward her with his hands in his pocket.
She immediately recognized him as the man who had been standing behind Tobias earlier.
"Hello, sir. Can I help you?" Cordelia smiled politely.
"Sir?" Ethan's smile froze. His face dropped as he pointed at himself and said, "Do I look that old to you? 'Sir' is for old men like Tobias, not me!"
Hearing his words, Cordelia mentally rolled her eyes but remained composed. "Sir, if there's nothing else, I'll be taking my leave." Then, she walked past Ethan.
The way her jeans hugged her figure caught Ethan's attention. He gulped hard and stared at her with desire in his eyes.
"Hey, wait up!" Ethan quickly caught up to her. "Let me introduce myself. I'm Ethan Reeds, and I'm the eldest in my family. I own four luxury cars and three mansions. I don't gamble, drink, or have a thing for flings. I'm also free of any questionable diseases."
