The walls of Montero Global’s private medical wing seemed too sterile, too quiet, as Mariana lay beneath the crisp sheets, her body aching in places she hadn’t even realized she could hurt. The soft beeping of the heart monitor was the only sound filling the space until the door creaked open. She turned her head slowly, wincing as Diego stepped inside.
His face was a battlefield of its own, bruises darkening his sharp jawline, a cut slicing across his cheekbone, dried blood still marring his knuckles. His usual confidence was buried beneath exhaustion, his gaze heavy with unspoken grief.
