Chapter 4 Pain

His legs trembled in panic as Mr. Greg stared at him with red eyes. Mrs. Pheona entered the room and shut the door angrily. They had brought him into a private room away from the public, where they could possibly do anything to him, and no one would be there to help. "Bryan... Bryan... Bryan... So you have finally grown the wings to hit my son in public, right?" Beautiful Mrs. Pheona glared at him as she breathed in rage, her fingers clenched tightly. "No, mom, it wasn't my intention. Your son took my girlfriend—" **Slap!** "Shut up, you fool! Who are you calling 'mom'?" Since Mr. Jing died, she had warned him several times not to call her mom, as it only infuriated her. "Your mom is dead because she brought an abomination like you into the world, and I can't be her," she would say to him. "You have crossed the line again, and you must definitely pay for it. You know how much I love to see wounds all over you," she said to his face angrily, then gave a sweet smile to Greg, who was already warming up his fist aggressively as she left the room. "You don't have to—" Greg balled his fist and began punching him in the face, not caring about what he wanted to say. He struggled to get out of the room, but he couldn't. Greg was much larger and stronger than him, making it impossible to resist his punches. Bryan was brutally beaten until he was half-dead and no longer struggling before Greg stopped. "Next time, be good to Mrs. Pheona," Greg said to Bryan and left the room. Bryan was left lying on the cold floor, bleeding. He couldn't move, nor could he see properly with his puffy eyes. He was left in the room to die, and the only person he could call for help was his special advisor. "Aunty Sally..." he weakly called her name—still on the floor in pain, but she couldn't hear him. She had always been the one treating and caring for him each time he was in a situation like this, and he needed her now. He struggled to call her name again and hoped a miracle would bring her to him. Then suddenly, he heard the door open, and it was like God had finally come to his rescue. "Oh, thank goodness. Aunty Sally, is that you?" he asked, still lying on the floor, but heard a different voice—standing at the door and weeping profusely. "OMG. Bryan, you've been beaten again," he heard a different voice that wasn't Aunty Sally's. "Where is Aunty Sally? Go get her for me, please," he groaned in pain on the floor as he was already losing a lot of blood. He couldn't guarantee his existence on earth if she didn't come in a few minutes. "I'm sorry, but that's why I came in search of you. Aunty Sally is dead," the maid said, and Bryan's breath ceased for a few seconds. "What? Are you kidding me?" "No, Bryan, I'm not. Her corpse is still lying in her room." Hearing this from the maid, he gained strength and quickly jumped to his feet in shock—even if he was still in pain. "What did you say? Where is she?" He followed the maid, limping to where he finally saw Aunty Sally's lifeless body on the floor, and he fell to his knees in tears. "Oh my God, what happened to her?" he asked with tears flowing down his cheeks. "Look at her hand," someone pointed to the small bottle of poison in Aunty Sally's right hand, and Bryan was shocked. "What! She committed suicide? But why? Aunty Sally, whyyyyy?" he rolled on the floor and cried heavily. She was the only one he could talk to in this lonely world after his girlfriend had given him the shock of his life. Who was going to be there to tell him things would get better during his hard times? The door flew open, and Mrs. Pheona entered with her children, except for Hopper, who was still on the birthday cruise. "What is happening here?" Mrs. Pheona asked when she saw how sad the atmosphere was. "We lost her, ma'am," a maid said. "OMG, that's really bad. I guess she committed suicide; hmm, what a waste of a beautiful lady. Please clean the body up, and I don't want this going out of this room. As you all know, it's my son's birthday, and we have guests around, so keep it a secret, okay?" "Yes, ma'am," they all responded, except for Bryan, who was sitting on the floor and weeping. 'Did she just say that? Like, seriously?' Bryan was surprised how she sounded like it was none of her business. She wouldn't even say that if it were her dog that died. He still sat on the floor with his head down when he felt a familiar cold hand on his neck—a hand he detested so much. "A*n, so sorry, Bryan. I know you're gonna be lonely now that your mistress has gone," Ava said in a mockery tone as they all turned to leave. Bryan jumped to his feet angrily. "How can you all just leave without minding what happened to her? She has been a dedicated worker here!" he yelled, and Mrs. Pheona turned to him. She wandered her eyes over his brutally injured body with a puffy eye and smirked. "What are you talking about, dear? What's there to investigate when you can clearly see a poison bottle in her hand?" she asked calmly. "Yeah, what's there? It's clear she killed herself," Darlington said. "Yep, and I think it was because she was just so frustrated to see a failure like you as a son figure. She couldn't help it, and that's why she ended her life," Ava, who always took things to the extreme, said, and they all laughed and left the room. Not only did they not respect late Aunty Sally, but they insulted him in front of the maids like he was nobody. Of course, they were right. He was nobody but just a fortunate boy who was lucky to be adopted into a rich family that treated him like trash. Some minutes later, two guys came into the room and took her corpse away to the mortuary while he was left in pain. He cried and stayed in the room throughout the day, and the pain worsened when he heard sounds of people rejoicing and a maid began running through the rooms to tell everyone that Hopper had finally proposed to Sasha. H e felt a knot in his stomach and lay down on the floor, feeling ill.
